I took this photo years ago at an event at Culzean. Sawney Bean, so the story goes, was a local cannibal who lived in a cave near Lendalfoot [south of Girvan] way back in the 1600s. Him and his family supposedly used to rob passers by and then eat their flesh, until being captured and taken to Edinburgh for execution! Gruesome story but there is no actual proof it ever happened!

This isn't a view of Ayr that you would normally get to see. I took this from St Johns Tower during last years "Doors Open Day".

It happens annually, usually in September, and basically over this one weekend you have the opportunity to visit a variety of local sites which normally charge entry or are not open to the public at all. Its a good way to see places :)
