  • Beware of boy racers!

by MartinSelway Updated Dec 17, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We had seen reports on VT about the local boy racers, but could not believe just how bad they were until we arrived at the big seaside car park about 5pm.

They were all starting to gather in their souped up motors with as many modifications you could think of - exhaust, lights, darkened windows, lowered suspension - you name it!

They seem to delight in racing each other up and down the car park. Now the Council must be aware of what is going on here because they have created the biggest speed humps I have ever seen (we have a Citroen C5 but I was wondereing if we were going to bottom out!). This seems to have curtailed their fun sumwhat, as they are now limited to reving their engines to screaming pitch and racing between speed bumps!

Its worth going down just to watch them!

(Does not make them bad people, but if you are expecting a quiet read of the paper gazing out over the ocean, you had better watch out).

    RAbbie Burns

I'm sure its just me being petty and this is more a word of advice than a warning, but if you are talking to anyone Scottish don't refer to Robert Burns as anything other than Robert or Rabbie. Thats with an A. Not an O. He doesn't get referred to as Robbie here. And certainly never ever referred to as "Bobby".

  • Seafront at Night

by JiminYork Updated Oct 10, 2004

Beware the domination of the seafront at night by Boy Racers in their souped up mini cars, revving along the promenade with music blaring. Ogled by teenage girls too young to drive, but not too young to be drunk out their heads, the boys jockey for attention. Occassionally they stop to let their bombed mates out to throw up on the pavement. Litter is everywhere, as are tattoos, "cairry-oots", baseball hats, Burberry, prams (!) and empty Buckfast bottles. Police are noticable by their absence. This is Ayr's biggest embarrasment.

    THEFTS FROM CARS

To those driving around the UK please be sensible about leaving valuables in view when leaving your car parked. I seem to keep reading in my local paper of (North American mostly) tourists having their cars broken into and luggage & belongings (camcorder etc) stolen. If you take the same precautions that you would at home then you should be fine.
