The best way to get to know the city is to just wander around and discover places for yourself. Well in the centre of the city at least, don't want to end up anywhere dodgy by accident! I took most of these photos while on my way to Glasgow Green on my most recent trip to the city

A couple of hours after booking in to the Globetrottrs i had been introduced by name ,country and even length of stay and forward destination to over 15 other independent travellers in the hostel. We ate bbq. food and drank theGlobetrotters iced tea, except it was not iced and tasted far better. Individual travellers get put into smaller dorms with...

    Glasgow Favorites

One of Glasgow's best known personalities was Charles Rennie MacIntosh, an architect from the turn of the 20th century who was one of the spear headers of the Art Deco era. There Isn't a lot of his original architecture left though his angular designs are reflected in modern lookalike's, both buildings, furniture and decor. The Glasgow School of...

this 100 year old artist (I have to express an interest, she's my auntie) has an exhibition - the last in a 5 year international tour - at Glasgow University Chapel. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University in the 1920s and 30s. Otherworldly eerie cloaked figures and bronze female figures: "Eighty years on from her...

Oh, look at this! This is Glasgow. The picture is of the Old Exchange, now a Bookshop (with a cafe - thankfully) ... oh so civilised. You might think I exagerate, but there are so few places like this in Scotland (UK?) and so many beautiful old buildings are left to rot, my heart warms every time I see this. Explore this area, between Central...

  • George Square

    Glasgow Favorites

The tourist information office is located at the George Square, jsut behind where the tour buses stop. I'd really recommend you going there. They've got lots of brochures, maps and ideas about what to do and see. (even though the chick I was talking to pointed me in the direction of the Rangers home ground when I wanted to go to Celtic's dito :P )

See/do as much as possible! If you want to go shopping, then the city centre is obviously a great place to go, but also go to Byres Road (get the underground to Hillhead, or lots of buses go there - the 44 definitely does, I'm not sure about the numbers ot the other routes) for more unusual shops - DeCourcey's Arcade (in DeCourcey's Lane) has some...

Take the tour of Celtic Park. If you are any kind of a soccer fan you will love it. You see the history of Celtic football and also go onto field level. CELTICS!! We went to a Celtic-Aberdeen match at Celtic park. It was the best experince ever..60,000 people cheering and singing at a soccer match. The Celts won 3-2, so it made my day and trip.

Buy a copy of "the list". It's a magazine that tells you every show that's on that week in Glasgow. All the clubs and thaters are listed there. You can buy a copy at almost every newspaper stand. And also at the Virgin Megastore, where you can buy concert tickets as well.
