This place serves the worst food and the seafood is old and way overpriced. I had oysters that were old and stuck like mud ..justgross and unedible. Dangerous to serve this kind of nasty seafood..can get very ill for sure. All shellfish was old and smelly water poured out of all the shellfish. Even the soup was horrid..tated like dirty diah water, Lobster like hard rubber. My girlfriend had even a worst meal of nasty looking salmon that was so dry and old it was just left on the plate. Staff colud care less and the owners got back to me like a month later and were just arrogant..they know nothing of fine seaffod..that is obvious. Do not wasteryour time and money at this ove priced hole. Ruined our stay in Glasgow and would not want that to happen to any other innocent patrons!A real rip off!
Favorite Dish:
Nothing here is ediable..just rubbish that is over priced...garbage
Cith Mercant in Glasgow is the worst restauant I've ate out in over 35 years! The oysters were old and I mean bad!! Like mud..the seafood platter was unedible and water jsut poured out of the shell fish which were old and tasteless..very expensive and a real ripoff for sure. The stff help could care less about your comments as the owners..Matteo family know nothing about food or quailty..stay away from this place! There are much better places to spend that kind of money in the area. Scotland has a reputation for bad food and servie and this place is why that is true!

Nothing at City Mercahnt is good or even close to ediable..even the soup was horrid..what a joke!
For a restaurant which specialises in seafood I was horrified when I was presented with the overcooked, deep fried oysters covered in shop bought orange breadcrumbs and even more disgusted when my main course turned out to be what could have been a nice selection of seafood and fish if only it hadn't been drowning in a mucky, tasteless soup that had the appearance and taste of dirty dishwater (it had been sold to me as a white wine and cream sauce).
I complained to the waitress who couldn't seem to care less and went home feeling I'd been ripped off.
Have never been so disappointed!
Expectations were high for The City Merchant because it was fully booked on our first attempt but we were not very impressed when we did get a table
The fresh fish display looked very tired and didn't tempt us at all
The cooking didn't rate very highly it felt jaded as though the chef was bored with the menu
Saving grace was the atmosphere and the lovely waiters
The city merchant
This is a seafood and game restaurant which serves everything from oysters to duck to haggis....
The best thing about this place is basically the quality of the food. It is quite expensive, but the atmosphere is also very good.

anything on the menu is fabulous!
