A very modest looking Malaysian-Chinese restaurant, very popular with Asian students from the local universities and colleges. Don't be put off by first impressions (the formica tables, bright lighting, simple chairs), the food is brilliant and very authentic. So much to pick from but you must try: soft shell chili crabs: whole crabs deep fried in batter and served with fried garlic and spring onion, fresh chili and coriander roast duck: the best in Glasgow and made on the premises. Have it chopped on a bed of rice with a garnich of pak choi. Either that or team it up with soya chicken, pork belly or char sui hot pots: a variety of warm, filling hot pots with all manner of offal or main cuts and veg, served with stock cooked rice Malaysian chicken curry: large chunks of chicken, aubergine and other veg in a spicy sauce with coconut milk Malaysian pancakes served with a curry sauce They also do a great range of other seafood and fish, satays, curries etc. Portions are large and the ideal opportunity to mix and match with your dining companions. Asia style does not open for lunch, operating from 5.30pm to 3am daily (the owner told me this was to let them catch the trade from workers at other asian restaurants and yound folk on the way home from nights out!). Hard to book in advance, but the turnover is quick and you never have to wait long for a table. They have recently opened a fancier outlet in the city centre, but the original is best!

This bar/restaurant is tucked away on a side street in the Merchant city, but if you have time to go and find it then it's worth the bother. Situated in the ancient heart of Glasgow, the atmosphere is great and there's an outdoor section for when the weather's mild. Babbity specialises in contemporary Scottish food using local produce, and the owner is also fond of French wine so you can eat well for good prices. There is a 'proper' restaurant on the 1st floor for those looking for a more serious meal.

This is a little gem of a restaurant which is only really known by the locals (I used to live down the road). It's outside the city centre but well worth a visit. It is a small Italian restaurant in an old tram shelter type building which is in the middle of a kind of traffic island. Booking is recommended as it gets quite busy particularly on a friday and saturday night. Look out for the lunchtime specials. By bus get on a 44 which travels from the West End, past the University, through the centre, over the river, past the Gorbals. You will eventually go down a long straight road called Victoria Rd and the bus will turn left along the outside of the park. The bus will drop you off right outside. The restaurant is opposite the Co-Op and the main entrance to the hospital.

Beanscene is part of a small and friendly chain, usually located in quiet parts of town, inviting students, professionals on their lunchbreak, moms and moms-to-be to sit down and enjoy quality food in a comfy (think big leather armchairs) environment.
My favourite is personally the hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, but you can also order a variety of panini, tapas or jacket potatos, or simply have a home-made cake for dessert. Think continental food without any pretention. Best Kabob is a small little food joint that makes the best late night eating in glasgow. its very plain, but the employees definitely give it a great atmosphere. line ups are often out the door on weekends. all food is very cheap compared to other places selling similar orders. oddly enough, i have never tried their kabobs!
the chips and cheese are great from here, as well as the sarbini sandwhich. Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: right across from sainsbury'sDirections: by buchanen galleries shopping mall, across from the sainsbury's

The Bombay Blues Indian restaurant is an excellent choice for a special feast, the menu has standard favourites and also does a buffet type menu in the evening, eat as much as you like for a set price. The good choice of meals however can be supplemented by advice from staff and requests for dishes to be altered to suit your own tastes. I once actually had Christmas dinner in this establishment and although I had the buffet with bits and bobs of everything the traditional choice of turkey with all the trimmings was also available. The restaurant itself was largely blocked out a few years back when this particular area of Hope St was being renovated, it meant that the facade of the restaurant had scaffolding around it, it's a testament to the place that it survived that relatively unaffected.
I usually try chicken jalfrezzi, but I have never had a bad meal and have tried many others. Very good menu - i could have tried any number of things! in the end, I went for the pizza because i was very hungry, and didn't know what/when dinner would be... its usually a good barometer of this kind of place anyway - if the pizza isn't good, its unlikely the rest will be service was fast and friendly ambience good - busy but not full, and no loud music - just the buzz of conversation from people enjoying themselves
