I had read wonderful things about dining at the Ubiquitous Chip, and my actual experience there didn't disappoint. Part of the charm of finding the 'Chip' is making your way to the West End of Glasgow. We spent the better part of our late afternoon and early evening walking there, and we were well rewarded.
The Ubiquitous Chip is located in the heart of Ashton Lane, a charming cobblestone stretch that is lovely to visit on an evening with good weather when people spill out of the bars and onto the lane.
While we were looking to eat downstairs at in the main portion of the Ubiquitous Chip restaurant, there was an very, very long wait. A hostess clued us in to the lesser know 'Upstairs at the Chip', an upstairs Brasserie style extension of the restaurant that offers the same type of wonderful food at more modest prices. It was wonderful, and the intimate upstairs setting added even more to our meal.
While it might be a little pricey, it is worth it for a special meal out in the west end of Glasgow.
Resting on its laurels The Ubiquitous Chip is overpriced for what you get. It used to be a great place for fresh food and great service, now its average and many restaurants have taken over the mantle of the place to go for great food. Service is slow, staff are haughty, and the food is average for what you are paying.
Favorite Dish: The oatmeal ice cream used to be great, isnt now :(
This is a restaurant I used to go to frequently when I stayed in the area and have returned three times recently after a gap of 7 years or so. There won't be such a long gap before I return!
While the internal layout has changed somewhat, and it has added a great terrace to the upstairs bar, it is still largely as it always has been. The main restaurant is split into two main rooms, very airy with lots of greenery. Staff are attentive and informal and the menu offers enough options to make ordering a bit of a trial. The wine list is superb.

Aberdeen Angus fillet with stovies, venison haggis with turnip cream, local fish and seafood are all served in the airy dining room that has long functioned as Glasgow's unofficial arts and media canteen".

Best to book in advance, but if full, they do serve similar food upstairs in the bar at lower prices.
Favorite Dish: The steaks are to die for, real prime Scottish beef which has been well hung and cooked brilliantly, but my favourite is the wood pigeon. If not for you, then you can safely pick from a range of other game and fish sourced locally.
For visitors, the cheese board is a great introduction to some of the best artisan cheeses from around Scotland.
Who wants to eat in an institution, I hear you ask!
Well try this one. Its been there since 1973, so they must do something right. They do change things around from time to time, so that keeps things fresh and shows they're not complacent. In a place like Glasgow its important to be able to find a place which is solid and established - not just the newest "trendy" opening.
Reknowned for a great wine list, and for offering Scottish dishes using local produce.
Has an informal brasserie as well as the normal restaurant. Check out the website for more info.

SET BACK IN A SMALL LANE FROM THE BUSY MAIN DRAG WITH A FEW OTHER BARS AND RESRAURANT THIS GENERAL FEELING OF WARMTH SPILLS OVER AS YOU WALK BY THE BARS ETC.
Favorite Dish: VAIRED MENU ALWAYS OFFERS GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY
We decided to have a family night out and this restaurant and was the first stop and the last , after the main course was under cooked had hair in one of the main courses and was 40 minutes late with no apology i felt i should pass on this information to others that may want to avoid a restaurant that when i passed by the kitchen area i noticed a dog to my horror what more can i say.
i also passed this information the the environmental health department in the hope somthing is done about this .
