The Village Store: Luss get all you need

by scottishvisitor Updated Aug 10, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luss Village Store has everything locals or tourist alike could want to buy. All easily located in the village car park - a good marketing move as you will either visit on arrival or departure from the villlage. They have a good range of hot or cold snacks as well as freshly brewed tea or coffee and cold drinks to take away. The shop also sells a wide range of local and national newspapers so you can keep in touch with the wider world.

What to buy: If you want to stock up on a picnic the choice here is endless. Their postcards for me were a big draw I can never resist buying them to send and to keep.

What to pay: Prices are reasonably surprising for such a touristy place the price is just right for locals and visitors

Highland Arts: All the touristy things

C.John Studios kept popping up for us on our trip. I knew their main shop and art studio was on the Isle of Seil but didn't know it had branched out. We found one in Inverary and as we discovered one in Luss. All of the shops seemed to advertise the route to Seil on the A816 - the power of advertising might take you a fair distance between these places. The shop in Luss is a busy tourist magnet with lots of Scottish merchandise of good quality and lots of tacky souvenirs usually made in China.

What to buy: Local confectionary is a good buy here with lots of choice between chocolates, boiled sweets and Scottish Tablet - a type of fudge but hard and brittle with a very sweet flavour. They also have deer skin rugs and sheep skin rugs. I was tempted to buy a rug but I thought my dog maybe would attack it! They do have a wide selection of camera chips which I did buy just to be on the safe side of running low on my chip.

What to pay: Despite the fact there are many tourists in Luss, prices are reasonable and good value can be found here
