Chivas distillery in Paisley: The locally produced whisky

by Paisleypaul Updated Apr 2, 2008

    Chivas distillery, Renfrew Road, Paisley

Off Licences, supermarkets and Glasgow Airport Duty Free - selling the famous international brand Chivas Scotch whisky, bottled and blended locally in Paisley from a Highland (Strathisla in Speyside) source

What to buy: Scotland is ironically one of the more expensive countries to buy Scotch whisky in - punitive local tax outweighs txes and import costs and duties many other countries in Europe.

If you qualify for duty free however, it is the right one to souvenir from Glasgow Airport, being distilled around 1 Km over the River Cart from the Terminal, as the crow or the A737 flies....

What to pay: 12 year old is around £16 / US$30 in supermarkets, most of that is in tax!

The twice-a-month Farmer's Market: Local produce with surprises

by Paisleypaul Written May 5, 2006

    Paisley Farmer's Market

The farmer's market is held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at the pedestrianized County Square, right outside Gilmour Street train station, which is ten minutes by train from Glasgow Central.
Features local produce plus a few twists, I usually stock up on duck eggs (£1.30 for six) the occasional goose egg (about £1.50 each) and dabble in the fresh meats and seafood and fish.

The handmade chocolates are a treat, as are the farmhouse cheeses.

Loads more, and loads of organic produce

What to buy: Whatever you fancy, the market is not huge but the above list really does only scratch the surface

What to pay: Not the cheapest place to shop but not robbery either ; quality freshness and diversity is usually worth the little premium.
