by globetrott " TOSSING THE CABER " is mainly a case of technique - and most really strong men had NO chance against ordinary athleths from Scotland. - This piece of wood has to fall over once and lay on the floor as close to 12.oo as possible - and not roll to the left or right, when falling down... Tossing the Caber by globetrott Attending a HIGHLAND GAME might be one of the highlights of any vacation in Scotland. Simply make sure, you go to one of the traditional Highland games, such as Blair Atholl or Balmoral ( where even the Queen will watch the competitions ) Leave a Comment

by globetrott Traditional Dancing Competions - a very serious matter in different classes ...and quite often you may see how disappointed these young Scottish girls are, when they do not get enough points... Leave a Comment

by globetrott some athlets are from Scotland - but mostly sponsors also get foreigners to compete - and mostly the real strong men have NO chance against the locals in the 'Scottish Events' Leave a Comment

by gabriellefox Scotland has a history of Clans and they are very proud of their heritage. If you get a chance look around a local musum and learn a little of their colourful history and what makes Scotland so unique. They are and always will be a fiercly independent people but they are hospitable and jovial. They love a drink and a laugh. Just let your inhibitions go and join in. Leave a Comment

perhaps not a real 'cultural tip' but do try the Dundee cake.... it is a rich fruit cake and its lovely. There are cakes with whisky or Drambuie added and they are delicious. Leave a Comment

Tug of War competition by globetrott " Tug of War " is one of the standard-competitions of each Highland game. This pic was taken in Falkirk, where a less traditional Highland game took place. It was rather something like a high-school-competition, but called and announced as a " Highland Game " Leave a Comment

by globetrott Hmmm ?? It was an Austrian, who won the competitions for the " Strongest man on earth " several times - and was best in so many of the events , where strength was important, but finally lost against a scotsman, beeing used to " Tossing the Caber " Leave a Comment
