The beach pictured is just north of the harbour town of Ullapool, on the north west coast of Scotland. Most people drive past here without a second glance but I was stunned by the colours, even if the wind was blowing a gale at the time. If it was hot and tropical it'd be expensive and crawling with people - so look on the bright side! The Scottish coastline has many of these small, beautiful beaches tucked away, and you can camp or whatever - it'll be your own personal beach.Get a good map (like the Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 Landranger scale, pink cover) - beaches are marked as yellow. For an on-line map search of the Scottish coastline, to choose your own little hide away beach, try:www.streetmap.co.ukwww.multimap.co.ukwww.getamap.co.uk

These are all the World Heritage Sites in Scotland - The "Must See" places on a world scale:EdinburghOrkney New LanarkSt KildaYou may also consider looking atHadrian's Wallthough it is now in England - it was the Roman border keeping the hostile Scots out of the Empire.Follow this link to my page about all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, in the whole of United Kingdom and linking to the UNESCO site itself ... listing all sites by country. A fantastic resource for all Tourists, real or virtual! Enjoy.http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/70ef2/f4/4/(scroll down - it is the second tip down).

Fort William is the largest town in the west Highlands of Scotland and the commercial centre of Lochaber, as the surrounding area is called. The highest mountain of England is here: Ben Nevis and the deepest Lake; Loch Morar. There are beautiful glens, forests and beaches in between. In Fort William there are a lot of shops offering outdoor equipment (just in case you need to update what you have taken with you). The prices are about 1/3 less than at home.Unfortunately the weather was *** (censoring myself) as you can see in the picture. That figure in the rain is me, BTW.The weather made our decision easy to take the train back to Edinburgh and not the Bike.

Sometimes it is better to take the less driven roads .. you may happen onto a sight like this one (see pic).We had quite a lot of water (because we had quite a lot of rain), and I think it is a wonderful picture that old bridge over that wild river.I just wish I would remember where exactly this was...- if anybody knows ... would you mind and mail me the location?

One of the best known Castles in Scotland is the Eilean Donan Castle.Eilean means Island in Scottish. And the castle is located on a small island in a sea (loch), connected with the mainland by a bridge. This was sure good to defend it.The Castle can be seen in the movie "the Highlander", where it is the home of the main character McLeod and he is forced to leave it.I know it looks trist on my pictures, but I really enjoyed the view of it. For better pics and more information have a look at the official site.

Well what to say about this magnificent and most famous of scotish casltes? Nearly every act of scotish history takes place in this castle - or in Edinbourgh. We re not talking about a must see activity but the absolute scotish tourist destination!

Though the main attraction of scotish countryside remain the tall and snow covered highlands, a quick view to scotish lowlands is still an enjoyable experience....and one of the most beautiful places of the united kingdom.......especially the lands in edinbourg's southern borders are beautifully green...

I wonder who remembers the 80's movie Higlander...well it was shoot at his remote castle! and it's very impressive indeed, stands alone in the middle of a remote and hardly accessible area at the western part of scotich highlands but surely worths the pain believe me!

A trip to scotland is never complete without paying a visit to Loch Ness....for me is not THE place to be - there are many more and even more majestic Lochs than this one , though they luck myths............The body of water is really impressive though........
