Stuff you'll likely need...
Luggage and bags: A backpack makes getting off and on the ferries easier if you're a foot passenger. In high tide the passenger ramp in Tarbert can be very steep.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: warm clothes and waterproofs (high winds make umbrellas nearly useless)
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Don't expect to be able to buy specific items in town. Once the pharmacy has run out... they've run out. It could be a few days until items are in.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Avon 'skin so soft' (as midge repellant) re-apply frequently. The midge's don't like the texture of it.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: good strong walking shoes are needed if you are exploring the Isles plus waterproof and windproof clothing. We had marvellous weather in May but you are neve far from the sea and it can be windy cold and wet.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: there are shops in Stornoway where you can get all the things you need but it is at one end of the island and quite a drive from the other end. So take all you really need with you.
Photo Equipment: lots of film is needed (you can buy it in Stornoway) because the landscape is wonderful and with the marvellous light and clouds there you will take more photos than you thought you would!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: good strong walking shoes as the land is rough.
Miscellaneous: sun protection is needed as there is not much shade and it can get sunny combined with wind - I got quite burnt.
