Oxford Street is a huge street with many stores , departments stores and more. The prices in london are not cheap but you can find yourself in a middle of a good sale and the prices will be low.
In many cities you can find the Oxfam shops, sometimes also second hand shops in which the proceeds go to animal shelters or other charity organizations, Cancer Research, Red Cross etcTake your time and browse in these stores, you never know what you'll find. They sell just about anything, books, old records, toys, china, you name it. Some of it is even brandnew, apparently donated by some companies. It's a great way to cut expenses. I found several nice gifts in these stores, also books, which had been out of print for a long time. If you want to get a book to read on a long train journey, you can grab one in these stores, if you don't want to keep it, give it to a charity store in the next city.Don't pass these stores just because their ads aren't as big and flashy as some of the high street stores. The prices are set, starting from 10 p. I've never seen anyone haggle, but often people...

Harrods bills itself as the "World's Most Famous Department Store." Almost anything can be bought at Harrods, and its founder declared that the store could supply anything "from a pin to an elephant." Harrods is one of the most elegant stores in London, and counts among its customers royalty and international celebrities. It is a huge store as well, with 300 departments, over 4,000 employees, and 20 restaurants. Harrods has also become a tourist destination in its own right, and almost anyone who visits London includes Harrods among the sights to see. Harrods was founded by Charles Henry Harrod in 1834 when he opened a small grocery store in Stepney, specializing in tea. In 1849 he moved the business to Knightsbridge to take advantage of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in nearby Hyde Park. At first, the store occupied a single room and employed two assistants and one messenger boy. By 1880,...

When holidaying it is always hard to find little gifts to take back home. I found these little recipe books all over Britain. They only cost two pound and are small and light enough to pack into your port easily. What ever county or area you are in you can find these books with special recipes for that area. For instance...FAVOURITE COTSWOLD RECIPES, FAVOURITE SCOTTISH RECIPES, FAVOURITE WILTSHIRE RECIPES.They were a real bargain and the recipes themselves are really good! They are in most gift and souvineer shops. Two pound.

I just love M&S. Its not too pricey, the quality of the products that I've purchased have been excellent, and the food is fantastic!! Seriously, the pre-packaged salads are to die for. Yeah, I know, its salad, but when you are trying to balance with the chip shop, its perfect. I also really like the mixed fruit, and great juices. Lemonade with pulp, yum!!! The M&S brand of snacks(chips, sweets etc.) are also really good, and cheap too. For a large salad, with dressing, and drink; 5-6 pounds. (McD's isn't any cheaper, really)
If you take a digital camera you will need to get your photos copied onto a disc so you can start clicking again!I tried various places from Boots chemists to Klick but found Jessop's to be the best. They seem to be all over the UK and the people were very friendly. They always had an instore computer set up where you ' could do it yourself ' with someone onhand to help. Cost was 2 pound per CD.
I found these stores everywhere I went and I had a good time looking around. As I was holidaying in May there were some good sales happening. At the time they had 60% off and I managed to buy a cashmere scarf for 20 pound. They were originally 60 pound so I got a real bargain. Womens and mens clothing and lots of other stuff. A bit expensive but if you go at the right time they have good discounts.

Buying cigarettes in Britain was a bit confusing in the beginning. Firstly the most they come in is packs of 20. Secondly they are not graded in milligrams. For instance there is no such thing as 4 milligram strength or 12 milligram strength. Just mild, extra mild etc. And the cost! It nearly made me cry. Four pound for twenty, that's about $10 and there is not alot ot choose from. Packs of 10 - 2 poundPacks of 20 - 4 pound
My boots gave way on me and one of my coats was not travelling well so I needed replacements. Because of the high cost of clothing etc I started poking around the charity shops. Very interesting places! I picked up a pair of leather boots for 4 pounds and a nice black jacket for 5 pound. I picked up the most unusual crocheted woollen scarf which I would never find here for 1 pound. If you are worried about the weight when flying home you can just donate them back before you leave. There were heaps of good coats, jeans and scaves. While looking for clothing I found lots of bric a brac worth buying. Little jugs, teapots vases and plates etc. These little things are worth buying and make nice gifts. They are cheap and I feel more authentic as they have come out of someones kitchen and not just tacky souvineers made to look like the real thing. Alot were made in England and most were only...
I must say that I was actually shocked with the collection and prices of Clarks here. In Finland they are expensive and I never find what I want, and here, I could buy ten pairs and pay the price of 3 in Finland. So, in short, buy your shoes in England, you will get a good deal.
