Shops & more shops: Baby Chaging rooms in Salisbury

by LouiseTopp

Woolworth's in SalisburyDepressing room next to the toilet area. It smells & has gaudy pink walls, a scrawny wooden desk with changing mat on top & blue rough paper to drape across it from a roll (if there's any left that is!). This room isn't aimed at fathers as it's in the ladies; you have to navigate your push chair or wheelchair through two doors which are awkward, the room itself is big enough but it?s not user friendly. No facilities for us disabled! Why not?Mothercare:One of the better one's for space & access. There's a long bench to sit on & a mirror with a baby food warmer, two change mats, & two nappy bins. Both parents can come here, but the door is the let down as it doesn?t lock, & lets people from the shop see inside when your breastfeeding. One lady was breast feeding when the bin man walked in unexpectedly without warning!BHS (British Home stores)If you can get through...

Various: Regional Specialties

by tvor

All over the UK, various regions may be known for certain types of crafts or the area is known for a product. For instance, Wales is traditionally a coal and slate mining country. Therefore you can get items made of coal and slate in the gift shops. Another item unique to Wales is the wooden carved "love spoon". Scotland in particular is famous for woolen and whisky. Ireland also as well as the claddagh symbol and Irish linen and crystal. When you're traveling around, find out what the area is known for and there will usually be some good shops that have good prices on local specialties, be it food, drink, clothing or some other special type of item. These often will make the best souvenirs as well. I also like to go to art galleries and museums, especially small unusual museums that might focus on something local. I like to get postcards from museum and gallery shops of some of the art...

Past Times: Gifts from Bygone Eras

by tvor

Past Times sells gift items that are based on art and artifacts that were found in the past. They carry jewellry, china, paper products, linen, garden items, music, video, and all sorts of odds and ends. You will not be able to leave the shop without being at least seriously tempted by something. Some of the periods represented are Roman, medieval, Tudor, Elizabethan, Georgian, Regency, Baroque, Victorian, Art Deco, and into the 20th century. They also carry items based on the far east, India, Egypt. I've personally bought jewellry, Christmas ornaments and cards, craft items, linen goods. I make a point to shop there every time i visit, and there's a store in Terminal 3 Heathrow :)

Bedding, bedding, BEDDING!!!

by CDNgirl

ANY shop in England that sells linens. ARGOS is Ikea-like, and sells cheap duvet covers, sheets etc. and has a wide selection. My favorite duvets to date have all been bought at the local markets, especially the one in Milton Keynes City Center. Its there on the weekend, and you cannot beat the prices on Duvets and covers and I find the quality a little higher than Argos. DUVET COVERS!!!! And of course, the duvet to go with them!!!! average 20-30 pounds for a double/queen, which is really cheap compared to North American prices that average around $100 for a decent duvet cover, and the quilt is even more than that!! Plus the selection sucks over here. AND the duvets themselves are not near as nice.

Farm gate sales.

by leics

Keep your eyes open as you travel around the UK. An increasing number of farmers sell their produce either at the farm gate, or in their own farm shops. You might find fruit, vegetables, meat or cheeses and all will be excellent quality (much fresher than in the shops).Farmers' markets (selling local farm produce) are also becoming increasingly popular and are well worth seeking out. Ours sells ostrich burgers and venison as well as other meat, pies, cakes, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

Past Times: Reproduction gifts of all sorts

by tvor

Quite possibly my favourite shop in the UK, Past Times is a chain of stores found all over the UK and features gifts of all sorts. They focus on reproductions and stylings from various historic eras. There is jewellry, stationary, books, music, ornaments, garden things, clothing, scarves. Find items reflecting such eras as Tudor, Medieval, Roman, Egyptian, Art Deco, Victorian and Georgian/Rococco. I love the jewellry. They also have wonderful Christmas ornaments and cards in the fall. Their garden ornaments are quite unique as well. all prices

Romanes & Paterson: Princess Street the Shopping Street%c

by Goner

Edinburgh has some fantastic stores like Mark and Spencers for high end shopping. We chose Romanes & Paterson, because of the tartans displayed in the storefront. Romanes & Paterson are a household name in Edinburgh as they have been trading on Princes Street since 1808. This is an Aladdin's cave of all things Scottish. Tartans are made of fine wool and can't be found in discount stores (darn), if so, we didn't find any. . My credit cards were already worn thin, but I had promised to pick up some Tartans for the family back home. Tartans, kilts, tams, pants and capes.Shop Hours: 9 a.m. - 8p.m. Mon. - Sun.Late Opening: June to Aug. A variety of prices.

Shopping in London

by J.I.M

There are many great shops in London, you can buy just about anything here, although the main problem is that everything is very expensive! Shop around to find the cheapest bargains (although even the cheapest things here are hardly ever THAT cheap).

Paul Smith: Very English

by wrldtravler

What Eddie Bauer is to the US, Paul Smith is to the UK.There are eight shops in London, all featuring the famous Paul Smith label. This one is the best to get a feel of his stuff. Shirts. Above average.
