By the time we reached Campeltown the hour was drawing late. Our stomachs told us we had little time to browse the available restaurants. Most places we tried were just bars and did not do food - the rest were take away options. We really needed to stop and re wind here so we choose one of the biggest establishments 'The Argyll Arms Hotel' The very nice receptionist asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant or in the bar. We chose the Farmers' Bar, a nicely decorated place, not too crowded and some nice eye catching details in the form of old photographs of farming days, lovely floral arrangements and some farming nick nacks as well.
Favorite Dish: Service here is attentive and helpful the food is wholesome but a word of warning - the portions are huge no doubt aimed at 'Farmers with big appetites' Kenny had a traditional roast chicken dinner with the usual gravy veg and baby boiled potatoes. I had salmon goujons with a zingy lemon dressed side salad and rice flavoured with coriander. We finished with coffee and some sweet tablet, I had looked at the sweet menu but we were so full we didn't have room left = maybe next time!
It was getting late into the afternoon and we needed a drink and a place to rest and relax from the seemingly endless B879 road from Skipness to Campbeltown. The Glen Bar fitted the bill perfectly. Service here was friendly and welcoming - we asked the lady behind the bar where the beach was so we could walk the dog. She gave us precise directions and asked if we wanted to bring the dog inside as they weren't serving food at the time. Well I'm sure Cuileanne would have loved the soft leather couches I know I had a fine relaxing time lounging around here!
Favorite Dish: We opted to have just coffee - again food is only served between 12.00 & 14.00 Lunch and 17.30 till 21.00 for evening bar meals. I did look at the menu and all sounded very appetising with lots of local fish and other options. If I come back to this area I would definately get my timing right and have an evening meal in this lovely restaurant.
