This is a picture of Matlock Bath, near Matlock an old spa town. John Smedley built a spa upon the hillside at Matlock this now houses the offices of Derbyshire County Council. (Smedley also built a cotton/tweed? mill at Lea near Holloway)
You remember Riber Castle upon the hill overlooking Matlock?? Well, that was also built by John Smedley as his home, Riber was later to house a zoo but this has now closed...the future of Riber Castle is undecided but it looks as though developers will change it into luxury flats or something. This is a picture of a roundabout in Matlock...what else can I say? There is a park, railway station, the River Derwent flows through the town, Riber Castle stands upon a hill overlooking Matlock, a great antique shop can be found here, plenty of shops, parking can be a problem. Leave a Comment
