The Forth Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • When I was a kid we had playing cards with pictures of famous buildings and constructions. Four were of bridges and one of them was the Forth Bridge. It was nice now to see it in reality and go over it with train.
The Forth Bridge is a rail bridge built in 1883 – 1890 and is considered to be an engineering marvel. More than 4500 men were working with the construction during these seven years. The bridge is 1447 metres long and over 100 metres high (the train runs almost 50 metres above the water) and about 60 000 ton of steel were used in the construction.
The train station south of the bridge is Dalmeny (for South Queensferry) and the train station north of the bridge is North Queensferry.

    Forth Road Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Forth Road Bridge is a big suspension bridge built over Firth of Forth. It was built between 1958 – 1964 and as it was opened the car ferries ceased to operate. The towers of the bridge are over 150 meters high and the mainspan is 1008 metres long and the sidespans are each 408 metres long.
It is possible to walk over the bridge (I didn't) but it is often very windy. For cars going north a toll must be paid.
