by uglyscot Written Jul 28, 2011

There is no seating available, but orders for set dinners and special meals can be taken for 2, 3 or 4 persons. Prices are £23, £31 or £39.

    Set dinner for 2 persons:
Spring Rolls, Chicken with mushrooms, Fried beef with green peppers in black bean sauce, sweet and soup pork, egg fried rice.
Chicken or meat dishes are usually between £5 and £7 per helping.

European dishes are also available at the same price range except for Grilled Sirloin Steak at £9.50

Favorite Dish: I had fried chicken with bean sprouts, but found it rather bland. However my friends were delighted with their choices.

    Brambles: A nice coffee shop

by uglyscot Written Jun 3, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Brambles is a nice coffee shop on King Street It serves espresso coffee and other beverages. It specialises in home baking from scones to cakes. Snacks are available with baguettes and jacket potatoes available all day.
It is very popular with the women and older generation who can relax and enjoy conversation in a peaceful environment. I go there frequently.

Favorite Dish: Jacket potatoe with cheese filling

It is a grand Victorian house in its own grounds. The dining room overlooks the Dornoch Firth. The service is good and friendly.
    The decor is old Scottish.
The food is also home grown or produced locally - shrimps, salmon, venison, mussels.

    Up date 2010

We went for the Sunday Carvery where a three-course meal costs £10.
We had delicious leek and potato soup, rather than the starters. .
Then slices of roast beef, chicken or gammon , with as much of the vegetables etc as you wanted- broccoli, cauliflower and green beans; swedes; roast or new potatoes; Yorkshire pudding, gravy, stuffing etc
Then dessert. Choice was fruit salad, choux buns, cheesecake, meringues and various tarts.
    A wonderful meal.

Favorite Dish: All are excellent but you can't go wrong with the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings. And you may need to ask for a doggy bag to take what you couldn't finish home.

The Chocolate Shop or Cafe Volante: It was convenient, but no longer exists.

    Cafe Volante

The shop has been around [under different names] for over 50 years. The front of the shop is a sweet shop and fish and chip shop. There are jars of old fashioned sweets like bulls' eyes and licorice and gobstoppers.
At the back are tables where you can sit and get a snack or coffee.
It is pretty basic, but the service is quite good. And the fish and chips is excellent.

    UPDATE 2010
This shop is now a bookmakers/betting shop.

    Favorite Dish: fish and chips
    or haggis supper
The fish is fresh and usually of a good size.
