The Coach & Horses was once the main pub in Thorley Street, the only part of Thorley most people see, as few - otyer than residents - will venture up and off the beaten track either to the older village or the more modern Thorley.

Today the Coach & Horses has become a gastropub, forsaking its history as a pub and drinking place for its current role serving prawn cocktails, Sunday roasts and sticky toffee puddings to the moneyed middle classes of Bishop's Stortford.

As far as chain gastropubs go, this is a fairly good one, but it's still a chain restaurant. a few notches up from Little Chef and Beefeaters, a few notches down from one of Gordon Ramsay's places.

It serves little purpose in the community these days, and it could be located anywhere in southern England.

The food is good, but you could be anywhere. Welcome to 21st Century England: twee blandness, a good meal but predictable and unadventurous.

Favorite Dish: Pretty much anything on the menu will be good.
