Be punctual !

by dr.firas

Before going back to your home if its in Europe, and if you go by train or by Bus you have to check your ticket in the right window of the same company one hour before the trip to have the board, English are so punctual, and this is a great quality that every visitor or tourist must respect, so please be Punctual in wonderland!

Hyde Park is part Beaten path, but not completly!

by dr.firas

Yes indeed, few people know this fact that Hyde Park is part Beaten path, but not completly, the huge size of it, which covers 9 streets in London is obliging to join some parts of the streets where transportation access!so don't be so sure of crossing the roads without looking Right or Left in those area's in the park!

Food for animals

by dr.firas

In the many parks of London there are plenty of cutie animals, you will never resist to get closer and feed them or take pictures, but you have always to read before you feed them, some places it is noted that it is forbidden to give food to some kinds of animals, so read carefully please before you do as you can pay a tax or something if you ignor it! otherwise it could be the wrong kind of food for the poor animal!

Land's End

by Geoff_Wright

Land's End lies at the extreme western end of Cornwall, at the end of the main A 30 road. The coastal scenery here is spectacular and this in itself is a 'Tourist Trap' in the nicest sense of the meaning. However, the whole area has been rather spoilt by trashy development of what I would call a semi-themepark, which is not in keeping with the beauty of the spectatular beauty of the place! I first new of Land's End's beauty in the early 1960's when I cycled there from my home in Surrey at the age of 15. At that time there was an hotel, and the famous 'First and Last House', which was a small gift shop and cafe. Today, there is a large childrens' play area, lots of gift shops, and a huge car park on the cliff-top, which, the last time I visited, they wanted an extortionate amount of money from you to use. We just turned around and drove straight out! Having said this, it would be a pity...

Lake District tourist hub

by Sjalen

Try to base yourself somewhere other than Bowness-in-Windermere. This is where everyone stops for tea and yet, there are few of the real Lakeside gems in the way of museums and mountains. Here you just find nice wooden boats to rent and tea rooms full of daytripping pensioners. Rent a boat, go for a walk along the lake... Go to nearby Ambleside. Still very touristy but with more to see.

Loch Ness

by Sjalen

Loch Ness is THE most overrated sight in Scotland. Not only does Nessie never show her face when tourists are about but the lake itself is actually not very beautiful at all compared to all other Scottish lochs tucked away in craig-looking valleys. Loch Ness could have been picked from somewhere in Scandinavia with its beech trees everywhere and nothing wrong with that but it doesn't represent that Scottish desolate wilderness at all. The worst place you can go to is Drumnadrochit where most buses take you. A giant plastic monster and a souvenir shop awaits you and so does hoards of tourists. Have a look at Castle Urquhart. If you are into horses you can also trek at Drumnadrochit equestrian centre but I don't know how far in advance you have to book. Stay in Inverness, or if you like history, visit Culloden battlefield. Alternatively, leave this area for somewhere scenic like Glencoe!

Poor quality bed and breakfast accommodation

by eurotravels

The UK has some fantastic accommodation that can't be beaten but there are also some bed and breakfast places that are just out to rip off the tourists. On our honeymoon we spent our first night in London. We didn't have a lot of money but we had been sensible and got a book from tourist information. We booked a Bed and Breakfast that was listed in there. What we hadn't realised was that when it shows the acommodation as "listed" (as opposed to commended or highly commended) it simply means that the owner has paid for a directory entry. The accommodation was dire. The room was dirty and infested with flies (50 or so). The springs in the bed were clearly visible and extremely uncomfortable. Not a good start to a honeymoon!!The round off our stay, at breakfast the owner brought a small amount of toast and one boiled egg - he said that he only had one egg, could we share it!! After we had...

Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare must be rolling!

by feline01

Stratford-upon-AvonUnless your a huge Will Sheakespeare fan (which I'm not), this place sucks. Who needs Macbeth chocolates or King Lear socks (exaggerating a bit) but I really did not like this town. Way too touristy and nothing to see except replicas of Shakespeare stuff. Skip it. It's on every group tour of England's stops so if you do visit, expect hordes of tourists who think Hamlet is the name of a pig, King Lear was the creator of a jet airplane and Much Ado about Nothing was about nothing but visit this town because, hey, everyone else does.

Looking for Nessie???

by feline01

Yes, I know the Loch Ness monster is a tourist trap basic but look at this view. Loch Ness does have some tacky 'museums' and gift shops but it also has the beautiful loch and Urquhart Castle, the site where there have been the most alleged Nessie sightings. Just skip the Nessie pencil and offical Nessie t-shirt and you'll be fine. The loch is so beautiful, it's a shame to skip it just to avoid the kitsch.

'BigBen' is the name of the...

by Morepork

'BigBen' is the name of the clock bell, not the tower or the clock itself. Note the lovely gold work around the clock face and on the spireWe would love to run up the stairs & onto the roof to hear Big Ben strike midnight ! We couldn't hear it during the day for the noise of London traffic. London was soo exciting for us little country girls from New Zealand. We could harldy beleive that we were walking in the footsteps of history.Dick Whittington was forever in our thoughts.Don't have history like this back home.I was so ashamed of my lack of knowledge of English history that I bought a book on it.Then visited our friend who is a Beefeater in the Tower of London. Amazing ! Go Skydiving ! It sure beats boredom.
