by skyediver

probably the only thing i'd say is don't go on the oxford open bus tour...it's a really small town and you can see everything on foot, and it's probably more fun that way as well because you get to see other random things on the way as well...all you need is a good map/guidebook available from any newsagent.

Ice Cream Vans

by Ash59

Some ice cream vans in the center of London are a rip off. An ice cream cone should cost approx £1 (1.6 ecus). Some vans tend to charge a lot more, especially if they realise you are a tourist. Always ask for the price before buying. A reputable van will always have the prices clearly marked. It is the same with cans and bottles of drink. If possible, buy your drinks in a supermarket before you go touring or buy from a proper shop during the tour. Carrying drink around may be a drag but it will save you a lot of money.

London Tower. You don't get to see anything anyway, except for the Queen's jewels and some video about her being crowned. Honestly, unless you are a Royal fanatic, it is not worth standing there for hours just waiting to shuffle past some diamonds.

by Lulu-Girl

Do *not* tip in bars or restaurants, unless the menu states that gratuity is *not* included. 95% of the time, tip is automatically included. Some bars have a tip jar on the bar, but trust me, the tip has already been included.

by emmandtom

I'm afraid I will have to call Castleton a tourist trap becuase even though it is beautiful it is totally ruined by the sheer amount of people that overwhelm it on any reasonable weekend day. I only visit castleton on a day off in the week or in thw winter months and the rest of the time I even avoid driving through it as its roads become totally blocked with traffic and parked cars. If you do decide to visit Castleton during the summer on a weekend then my only advice is to go early in the morning and take a a picnic becuase there are no parking places after 11am and you have to wait over an hour in dangerously packed pubs to be served with either food or drink and then there will be no-where to sit. Having said all that, if you get there early and head off out of the village and take a picnic to eat in the hills you'll probably love it.

by gingerpipp

When non-British people think of places in England, so i've been told, they think of 1st London 2nd Brighton 3rd Oxford and Cambridge. Now heres the bare truth:1) London is 2 to 3 times as expensive as anywhere else in England ... so watch out.2) Brighton .. is infact the gay capital of England, not that this demeans the place but it could add to one of those 'in pub' facts we all have.3) Oxford and Cambridge ... lovely places, nothing wrong with it... shame about the snobby students though.

by reon80

In my opinion (and this is just my opinion), Picadilly Circus in London is a tourist trap! It is so commercialized that even the Starbucks in the area aren't fun! The main problem is that it is constantly overrun with both tourists and locals and you can hardly get anywhere. I would steer clear and go somewhere a little less crowded!

British Airways´ 'The London Eye', situated by the River Thames close to Big Ben. You will sit in a capsule and watch the view over London. The ride will take 30 minutes...too long if you ask me. It costs 10,50 GBP per person

When buying your rail ticket, try to be specific about your journey, giving all information on dates, restrictions, possession of a discount card and period of stay! If you don't say anything, you will end up paying the highest fare!

by Willem_oa

If in Wales, there is absolutely no point in visiting Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch! There is nothing in this drab town but a gift shop sporting the long name on pieces of slate or t-shirts and a boring rail station. SKIP IT.
