We take the ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle. This one is ideal if you are going on to Scotland. It sails at 17.00 hours and arrives in England at 10.00. The road links north and south are great.

The famous Black Cabs are useful to get around, but I think they're more expensive than taking the London Underground.

The oldest tubes in the world! They are extremely expensive, though, so maybe walking would be a better idea for the cash-strapped backpacker.

Millenium Bridge and St. Pauls. The locals call this bridge the wibbly-wobbely because it had to be closed 2 days after it opened because of excessive swaying..suposed to be fixed by Summer 2001.

United Kingdom Transportation

Public transport in the UK isn't particularly cheap, but trains and/or local or long-distance buses will get you to most places.

And they'll get you there safely and comfortably enough....
