While in London dont get caught up in the tube, they are dirty and slow and you cant see where you are going. London is not really that big and you can walk around the main centre (Oxford St, Lester square, The Strand, Convent garden etc.) Or take a bus atleast you can see where you are going.

by Travellgirl

From here in Canada I suggest Air Canada...They have about 4-5 flights a day to London Heathrow from Toronto..The Transportations system in the UK is one of the greatest I have come across...The bus and trains are fantastic..May not always be on time but they go everywhere..I also rent a car and that is nice if you like to go to small towns..Remember to stay on the leftside of the road..HAHA!

by Packerman

Driving around England felt much like walking in this hedge maze (largest in the UK, maybe the world). My wife and I found the highway and country road signs to be very confusing in the direction they pointed. The signs usually were located right at the point where you needed to turn so you really have to keep your eyes open for them, there is almost no warning time to prepare for a turn. We were very frustrated at times driving on the country roads! Driving on the left side wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I got used to it in just two days.

by tessan1

We flied with SAS to Heathrow and from there we went by the underground to London (it took about one hour). We bought our undergroundtickets at a touristagency at home before we went to London. I thought using the underground was the easiest way to get around in London. If you use the busses, you will se more of London, than in the underground :-)

by Willem_oa

London has 4 Airports:-Heathrow (near Staines, in West London)-Gatwick (South of London)-Stansted (North of London)-City (in east-central London)In London, you should not attempt driving downtown because of all the congestion. Instead, take a double-decker bus or the tube. You can also take a water-bus, taxi, or train around London.

by jnockels

The Tube goes directly to Heathrow and there is a train to Victoria from Gatwick (the Gatwick express). Both methods are excellentThe Tube! Easiest subway to use in the world. If you can distinguish colors, you can figure out the subway system. If you are going to be there for a week or more, get a weekly travelcard which gets you on all subways and busses for a week. Ride the bus just to say you rode a double decker, but stick to the Tube for speed and ease of use!

by Pink_Pash

Being American, of course I flew into the UK, London Heathrow to be exact. I immediately took the Piccadilly Line (Cockfosters) to Earl's Court where I would be staying at. The tube is by far the best way to travel around London. I found them effecient and orderly. If you plan on doing a lot of sightseeing, I suggest you buy a day pass if you'll be there less than a week, or a weekly pass if you'll be there more than one week. Check what areas are covered by your pass, there are about four different areas that the Tube covers. The Underground is very helpful in getting around London, but if you plan to travel to other areas within the UK outside of London, let me suggest the National Express or the Rail. Both are highly effective ways to get around the beautiful British countryside, you won't be sorry you did.

Right. You're driving happily...

by ATLC

Right. You're driving happily on the A1 when just below Leeming Bar the car says: I'm tired of it, do it yourself, and then stops altogether. You're just able to steer into a parking and while traffic screams by, you get out of the car and fiddle around under the hood. Engine still dead. Time to get out your Dutch ANWB card (AA in English). A quick call to the Dutch ANWB, and they call a number in France (why? Ain't got a clue!) who then calls the British AA. Then you settle down for a nap and 40 minutes later the yellow/red AA patrol comes to save you. 'Dead' he proclaims. The alternator is broken. Luckily, an AA garage was quite near and within 20 minutes we're at the garage. Another hour and a new alternator is being put in. In the meantime you go out for a pub lunch and a bit of sightseeing in a neighbouring village.Total cost: 170 GBP. Noo! Not for the lunch, silly! For the...

British rail is the most...

by Shizuka

British rail is the most convenient for me to transfer inside the country. But it frequently changes the time schedule. Please listen carefully for the announcement!! And if you wanna go country side by train, you have to change the train soooo frequently!! I was so tired for it! So, I recommend you to ride a rent-a-car in that case.
