Seat belts & child seats

by smirnofforiginal

Seatbelts MUST be worn in the front and back of the car if they are provided. Children up to the age of 12 years or up to 1.35m in height (whichever comes first) MUST be in a car seat. It is the drivers responsibility. There are a few exceptions etc.. and the rules can be found http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/fromseptember06.htm#upto3

Eos Airlines

by mke1963

Eos Airlines only operates one route: from London Stansted to New York's JFK airport, and does so in some style, with a Boeing 757 configured with just 48 business class seats. It's a little like using a corporate jet: check-in takes just 30 seconds, you use the Fast Track security channel at Stansted and there is a big private lounge by Gate 7 (used for all flights). There are now up to three daily flights between STN and JFK, and the service is excellent. It's not surprising that the airline has won awards recently.EOS uses Terminal 4 at JFK.

Self-drive around United Kingdom

by kelnsha

We rented a Toyota Avensis T3 1.8 5 Dr at London Heathrow airport (National Car Rental) and drove around United Kingdom (England, Scotland and Wales) for 10 days. It costs us GBP373.65 inclusive of insurance, baby seat and taxes (VAT).It was a hassle free travel but not advisable to drive into London because of congestion and there is a charge of GBP8 per day to drive in London. There is no schedule to follow. You just drive around UK as and when you like but make sure you have a group of more than 2 perons to share the cost. Otherwise, it may be costly to self-drive in UK.

Point to Point tickets

by christine.j

BritRail also sell point to point tickets, apart from their passes. They have some very good deals for trains out of London, the main touristy routes. However, when comparing prices I found out that their point to point tickets for routes off the beaten path tend to be really expensive! If you plan to use a train outside the main lines, buying your ticket through National rail or simply at the train station will save you lots of money.

The underground is not for kids

by mazlynm

As a mother of two young boys (now aged 1and a half and the other three years old) we made the mistake of travelling by underground to get around as there were many places that required us to carry the strollers up and down stairs. If you use a wheelchair or have heavy luggage, or your children still use prams, then invest in another form of transport in London.

Blue Star Cars

by ChristinaC

The prices are fair,We drove from Premier Travel Inn, to the other end of the city, more specific Towerlands, for around 6-7 £ a bit more expensive on sundays. When we called them to send a taxi it took around 20 min everytime before it was there.Great Taxi company, with very chatty drivers! ;)

Ah!! Jet Lag!!

by CDNgirl

For us North Americans, the most common way to get there is by air. My best experience was one trip a few years ago to England in that I flew midweek, off-season and the flight was great!! I flew United for the first time and the flight was far from full. I was able to stretch out and sleep most of the way over and therefore suffered very little jet lag and enjoyed a full first day there after landing in the morning. The return flight was equally as great and I would HIGHLY recommend this flight pattern(midweek, offseason) for anyone who gets the opportunity.JET LAG TIP: For your west to east flight, I suggest sleeping/resting as much as possible before and during the flight over. Change your watch to the destination time, and start thinking that way. When you land, stay awake, get outside and walk, and be stimulated as much as possible, have a good meal then go to bed at a reasonable...

Heathrow and Gatwick Airports

by keeweechic

Heathrow and Gatwick Airports are the two main centres for overseas flights. London (Heathrow) Airport is one of the largest airports in the world and has two tube stations. Gatwick Airport you can reach Victoria Stations by the Gatwick Express rail link. The Eurotunnel operates a rail shuttle service between Calais in France and Folkestone and the British railway has passenger services between Paris, Lille, Brussels and London’s Waterloo International terminus.By Rail : 225 electric trains from London go to Newcastle in under three hours. InterCity 225 electric trains from London go to Newcastle in under three hours. By Road : Excellent motorways and trunk roads link the region with the rest of Britain. Speed limits are 30 mph in urban areas, 60 mph on roads away from built-up areas and 70 mph on motorways. In the UK traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road. There are special...
