The deaths of 45 men killed 50 years ago in a pit explosion on the 28 th june 1960.
The fact is that the industrial revolution was fired by Welsh steam coal and the British Empire was built using coal.
Artist Sebastian Boyesen wanted to create something that the poeple of sixbells would relate to and not a abstract piece. Having visited the site what with the statue on top of the colliery where the men died down in the valley bottom, I felt in would have been much more of a statement if put on the side of the steep valley over looking the colliery.
They say its taller then the angel of the north?.

This place it's like walking though a Dr Who set, no birds fly here its eerie, cold, unwelcoming the place it's been raped of it's life.
