Blaenau is a special place - a hole in the National Park, a wet place, a financially poor place, but it has a unique charm. Arrive over the mountain pass and descend amongst the mountains of slate, shrouded in billowing mist. Take in the local language - there are few places in the world where it is so easy to hear a celtic language spoken on the street.
Travel on the trains - narrow-guage to Porthmadog, normal train to Llandudno down the Conwy Valley.
