Corn Mill / Y Felin Yd

by muguruki Updated Sep 11, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a lovely old renovated pub in possibly the best location a pub could possibly be in Llangollen close to the bridge on the edge of the river Dee. It has got an actual moving water mill located in the pub. The Corn Mill could possibly described as a Gastro-pub, but not much choice for veggies.

In the middle of summer many may think that the whole of Llangollen as a tourist trap. With the car parks of Llangollen full to brimming with coach loads of day trippers coming in from the midlands and the north west of England. For a breif spell in the summer Llangollen is also home to the international eistedfodd when the coach loads of Brits are replaced with coaches full of Hungarian dancers.

All you need is a bottle of fine wine a tasty supper and a son that can play a guitar, you have cracked it. Just tie up the boat , relax and enjoy, then just fall into your bunk, what could be better than that??

Dress Code: Come as you are

Are you looking for a Lively Bar with a live Band, if so then my recommendation for Llangollen would be the Sun Inn, The Band was Great when I was there, Friendly Bar, Drinks prices are very fair and it has a late licence too -- What more could you want !!

Dress Code: Very Flexible, One guy was wearing a dress when I visited !!

The clubs in Bangor: Fancy a boogie?

by louiseanyon Written Jan 22, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Bangor is not a big city so there are not that many nightclubs. There are also a number of pubs that can double up as a club at the weekend after say 9/10pm.

Academi is the nightclub situated in the Bangor Student Union building and if you are not a Bangor Uni student the only way to get in is if a Bangor Uni student with a valid ID signs you in as their guest. Holds a variety of nights including Fruit Salad once a month (the gay/lesbian/bi/transexual night) and Trash (the rock/goth night). Also Salsa nights.

Time/Amser is connected to the SU building but does allow members of the general public to enter. Entrance fees can vary from £1 for the Monday night Cheese fest (60s/70s/80s/90s/00s cheesy music) to upto £10 for a DJ event. One time Rachel Stevens (from SClub7) came to perform, but we don't get many famous artists tbh. Drinks inside can be expensive but does have a cocktail bar too.

Octagon is located on the High St. OPen to the general public has special event nights occasionally especially during Freshers week (3rd or 4th week in September). One such night was a Beach Party with real sand. Tiered nightclub, for some levels it is required to buy a bracelet for entrance.

Joop also located on the High Street but I will admit to having not been there after hearing of some dodgy goings on with regards to bouncers and bartenders. Not sure if any truth lies behind the stories so can say no more.

Varsity is a pub chain which in Bangor had strong links with the Studen Union and a number of its clubs and societies. There was one night a week which was pound a drink night (Thursday if I remember correctly) for which a number of students would turn up to. Tables were moved off the lower seating area to make way for a dancefloor. The DJs were from the Uni radio show and competitions take place throughout the night including best dancer. Good times to be had in Varsity. Also serves food until 9pm (I think)

Dress Code: I'm pretty certain that anything goes for all of the nightlcubs/pubs mentioned above. The only one I am unsure of is Octagon. Of the clubs mentioned I feel that Octagon would be the one that would impose a dress code.

    Y Lluniau: The Picture House

by muguruki Written Nov 17, 2009

Typically big Wetherspoons boozer with their usual good value beer. Not surprisingly with a name like that the boozer is housed in the old picture house.
