Knighton Things to Do

I can't rate this day highly enough. A bit pricey but WELL WORTH IT if you've ever fancied a go at rallying. I did some serious research on the Internet to find the best value day I could matching price with time spent behind the wheel - this worked out best by far that could see.

The cost at the time was £245 per person but it has now risen to £265. I paid half the cost as deposit and the remainder on the day of the visit. You receive your gift pack which includes your voucher, DVD & brochure. The voucher is valid for a year but you should book well in advance as it's popular.

The day starts at 9.30am. You gather in the hospitality centre for the welcome. There is a video and lecture with Phil Price before you get out on the training stage in front of the centre where the tutors demonstrate how it's done in some fantastic little MK2 Escorts. Then you're in the drivers seat with a tutor alongside you and off you go. The tutors are very good and very encouraging.

At lunchtime Phil explains the role of the co-driver and how pace notes work. Listen carefully because later on you get the chance to drive the full rally prepared Cosworth round a proper rally stage with Phil Price as your navigator giving you the pace note commands to steer you round the stage as quickly and safely as possible.

In the latter part of the afternoon there is a competition between the group to get the fastest time round the training stage. The winner gets a trophy (I think) and everyone else gets a runner-up plaque - mine is proudly sat on my desk at work :o)

The absolute highlight of the day for me was going round the stage at full competition speed as a passenger with Phil at the wheel. It was utterly superb!

What I also found enjoyable was the team spirit and comaraderie amongst the group. We were the only 2 girls in a group with 6 fellas and everyone was really supportive of one another. The 3 instructors and Phil were brilliant and you get loads of time behind the wheel.
