Catching a flight by diocletianvs Although Cardiff has its own international airport, I used direct flight from Zagreb to Heathrow so I needed some form of local transport between the airport and Cardiff. My first stop was Bristol, and both cities were connected with Heathrow airport by National Express coach service. The coach service was smooth and efficient, taking 2 hours between LHR and Bristol and three hours between Cardiff and LHR airport. I booked this as an "open jaw return" which was cheaper than two single tickets - I paid 38 GBP (Feb 2007) for the return ticket. From Cardiff coaches depart from the central bus station which is in front of the central train station. Leave a Comment

Airport by aaaarrgh After my first plane flight from Cardiff International Airport at least I feel more qualified to say something about it. Yes, Cardiff has an airport and an increasing number of airlines fly here. There are connections to Ireland, Scotland, England and North Wales. You can also get good flights to Amsterdam and 'down south' to the holiday destinations on the Mediterranean. The airport is about 9 miles west from Cardiff and a couple of miles from the town of Barry. There is a regular hourly Airbus X91 from Cardiff to the airport (35 minutes) and, sometime in 2005, a new railway link is opening up. And a big carpark - they charge about 28 GBP for a weekend's parking. The airport is an ugly mess, like most airports. If you are leaving Cardiff, there are nicer food outlets in the Departures area than upstairs. If you are arriving from mainland Europe, get a window seat on the right side of the plane - tremendous views on a clear day of Somerset, the island of Flatholm, Cardiff, Penarth and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast!! by Carmela71 It is an airport that is growing fast, I guess the main reason, is that BMI has made this airport the second one of its fleet. As Stace lived in Barry, I never had any problem as it is 10 minutes from there, but if you have to go to Cardiff, no problems. There is a bus called Airbus X91 and another one service number 95, goes to Cardiff. Prices around 3 pounds one way or 5 the return. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

You can get to Cardiff by Air from most of Europe and the UK and even as far away as Canada. The airport is a good 30miniutes drive from the city centre, so taxis can be a little expensive I would recommend the express bus service x91 which operates half hourly and costs just £7.00 return. Or you could board the train which serves between the airport and the Cardiff central station and runs hourly and takes around 36minutes at accost of around £4.20 one way. Aer Arann Air Southwest Bmibaby Eastern Airways Excel KLM Thomson fly Zoom (Vancouver and Toronto)

. Driving to Cardiff & Parking On our weekend to Cardiff we drove from (West) London. The trip took about 2 1/2 hours, along the M4 motorway. This is a very easy drive, and there are plenty of services along the way if you need to stop for a break/petrol/coffee etc. Parking in central Cardiff can be a bit tricky, with some spots requiring a pre-purchased voucher from local shops. There are some parking areas with the 'pay-and-display', but these can get pricy after a few hours. Alternatively, you could park just a little out of the city centre and walk in. For example, we parked on leafy Cathedral Road, which is only 10 minutes walk from the centre of town and offers plenty of free parking. Flying to Cardiff Cardiff has an international airport, located 12 miles southwest of the city centre. Airlines such as KLM, Ryanair, bmibaby and Air Wales fly here daily. To get from the airport into the city centre, if you don't want to take a taxi, you can catch the 'Airbus Xpress' bus or take the train which links the airport to the city. Train or Bus to Cardiff You can catch a train or bus to Cardiff from major UK cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Leave a Comment

100 years of buses by aaaarrgh Cardiff has a very good, comprehensive bus service, provided by Cardiff Bus/Bws Caerdydd. Cardiff Buses were once all orange, but are slowly changing to a dark green and cream. The main Bus Station is directly in front of the Central Train Station. You will find large maps of the bus routes around the city (in a similar style to the London Underground Map). You pay your fare when you board the buses. Exact Fare Only applies. The drivers are not allowed to handle cash. You put your fare into the box next to the driver. No change! But let me tell you a secret - you can ask for a 'change voucher'. The driver will give you a receipt which you can take to the main Bus office (on Wood Street close to the Bus Station) and exchange for money. Cardiff is divided into Fare Zones. If you travel in one fare zone, you pay the least. If you have to cross one or more Fare Zones, you need to pay more for your ticket. Tell the driver where you want to go and s/he will tell you the cost! You can also buy return tickets. The fares go up regularly. It is currently (Spring 2008) £1 for travel within the centre zone, which includes Cardiff Bay. A return ticket is twice the price of a single. Or there are various Travelcards are also on sale, for different periods and different zones. For £3 you can buy an all-day adult ticket for unlimited travel on that date. Leave a Comment

Its OK, they are not all grumpy ;-) by aaaarrgh They have been around since Summer 2004 and seem very popular. Not surprising really - these are FREE "Velo" taxis which will take you on a tour of the city centre! Velo's are like plastic 21st century rickshaws. They have a 'driver' pedalling madly in the front and room for 2 people to sit in the back. They have a small motor which they can use to help them with heavy loads (i.e. you) or to go up slopes. The best place to catch one seems to be Cardiff Central Station forecourt. Most of them return here after taking passengers to town. There is also a 'stop' at the Cardiff Visitor Centre in The Hayes. Inside the 'cab' there is a sign which invites you to give a donation or tip. The Velos have advertising all over them which pays for the costs. Leave a Comment Theme: Bicycle

I arrived in Cardiff by train from Birmingham. There are frequent train services to and from most major cities in England and Wales. London or Birmingham are only 2 hours away by InterCity. Most trains stop at Cardiff Central Station, which is located just in the centre of the city. Cardiff has some more train stations for local trains, like: Queen Street Station, Cardiff Bay Station or Ninian Park Station. Leave a Comment

Cardiff Bus by HORSCHECK The public transportation of Cardiff consists of local buses, which are operated on an exact fare system. Cardiff is subdivided in 4 tariff zones. The single fare is calculated on how many zones you cross on your trip. There are various tickets available from single, return, transfare to different daytickets. A good deal seems to be the "City Rider Ticket" for 3,50 GBP (2005), which is valid on one day for unlimited travel in Cardiff and Penarth on all services operated by Cardiff Bus. The central bus and coach station is situated at Wood Street, just opposite the central train station. Leave a Comment
