St fagans Museum of Welsh Life
St Fagans is an open air museum that houses several buildings from many historical periods (from Celtic times to modern days). Most of the buildings have been moved from various parts of Wales and re-erected. It is actually a big folk museum because what you see here is the daily life in Wales, how and where the people lived where they spent their time etc
No surprise it is a very popular attraction that brings thousands of visitors, especially during weekends. The day we went there was a bit chilly and light showers kept people away so we saw the museum empty although some pictures were dark :)
Although there are big maps on signs all over the park we preferred to buy a map at the entrance for £0.30. This gave a general idea of the area, we had a quick coffee at the café of the museum and we started to explore the area.
First we saw a long field with lazy sheeps (pic 1) and then we visited the first part of the park which is a maze of peaceful paths near the lake, I loved it there, especially some corners where the trees were very picturesque among the gardens etc I have to admit that I loved the landscape and gardens as much as the buildings. Then we started to visit the second part of the park which houses various different houses (in some of them there was someone giving us information about it, if it was a poor man’s house or of someone rich, we loved the fact that the fire was litted in some of them), old churches and chapels, many workshops too, in some of them you can see demonstrations or even buy some products. The Iron Age Celtic Village was a big surprise (pic 4) for us too.
At the end we saw the farm which is full with pigs, horses, ducks etc :)
There’s no entrance fee (donations are welcome)
It is open daily 10.00-17.00
