It is useful to know that you can leave bags and suitcases at Cardiff's Visitor Centre. They currently charge £3 per item for up to one day.

The Tourist Information Office is located in the Old Library building, which is on The Hayes in the centre of the city. Normally it is open from about 10am to 6pm.

For a long time Cardiff had no 'left luggage' office at all. Hurrah for the clever person who has now filled that gap :-)

Don't forget to get a free map or some brochures about Cardiff at the Tourist Information Centre. British Tourist Information Centres are usually well equipped with useful brochures and free leaflets.

The Main Tourist Information Centre is located at The Old Library on The Hayes, just in the heart of the city centre. Another one is located in Cardiff Bay in "The Tube" building at Harbour Drive.

Notes from a small island by Bill Bryson tells the story of Bryson's last trip around Britain before moving back to the States after almost 20 years on the British island.
The book is packed with interesting and funny stories about travelling as it really happens. By reading the book you get a nice insight into the life of the British people and their peculiarities. Some places Bryson visits on his trip are: Bradford, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Llandudno, London, Porthmanog and Thurso.
This book is definitely a must-read for everyone before or after a trip to Britain.

To explore Great Britain an up to date guidebook is very useful. I often use the Rough Guide to Britain (England, Wales, Scotland). It covers information for all budgets on the best places to stay, eat and drink. Plenty of recommendations and practical tips on exploring the countries make this book an useful travel companion.

Just look at those clouds gathering over the Boulevard de Nantes. Like every place in Ireland & the UK, Cardiff gets its fair share of rain. Bring an umbrella..

  • Depends on how you are travelling, but suitcases or rucksacks are fine, but we dont have a lot of porters anymore and you will be expected to carry your own stuff. Airports have luggage carriers though :-)

Cardiff can vary in temprature but in Summer tops and shorts are fine in winter good warm clothing. BUT!! no matter what time of year, keep you eye on the weather forcasts and get an Umbrella, :-) it can appear even on a nice sunny day. Just use good common sense and you cant go far wrong.

You can buy everything you need in Cardiff, but make sure you have enough prescriprion drugs with you to last, if you do not belong to the EU as Medical costs are high and a lot of meds cant be bought over the counter, if you are not sure go to

Cardiff can deal with any of your Photographic needs it may be a little more expensive than the US and Canada though.

Do not forget your camera, here are some views of the Milenium Stadium from the Norman tower, inside the Castle.

Not many times I had found a great sky for photos, while visiting, so if you still use film get a 200 one minimum just in case.

  • Take a rain coat, because it always seems to rain in Wales.
