Music Shops, Cardiff
This is a fantastic little shop, filled with huge and beautiful instruments. Specialising in harps, the couple who own this shop are really friendly and knowledgeable, and sell not only harps but a massive array of harp music, cd's and some really choice paintings and posters. But then if you need a new bridge saddle for your guitar or tuning peg for your violin, you can also get it here, along with music bags, stands and books by esoteric Canadian composers! Aladdin's cave probably looked a bit run-down and empty compared to this.
What to buy: Harps, definitely, or at least a few harp cd's.
What to pay: From 90p for a clarinet reed, to £15,000 for a top of the range harp.
This claims to be the oldest record shop in the world and was established in 1894.
The shop holds a large collection of records and CD's. If they don't have it, they will do their upmost to get hold of what you are looking for.
At Christmas time you'll see a steady queue of bewildered parents clutching lists of the latest records to buy for their kids and the staff are always ready to help out.
What to buy: The shop does have a varied selection of Welsh bands if you want to find out about the Welsh music scene.
What to pay: The cost of any CD or record is likely to be a couple of pound cheaper than anywhere else in town.
