We were left to entertain the grandchildren one cold afternoon, so decided to take them to Techniquest.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the interactive science centre. Their particular favourite was the Shadow Box, where their actions were caught as a shadow on a wall. All aspects of science were included- fitting organs into a body, echoes, hot air, water, sound and music, pressure, sustainability and even a leaf eating ant colony.
As it happened to be Toddler Day , we found tables where children could be creative with modelling clay, crayons and crafts.
It is a good way of keeping children occupied, and perhaps they really do learn from the 'games'.

On a cold or rainy day it is a good place to spend some time. The centre is educational with exhibits illustrating the fundamentals of physics, and some biology too. It is aimed at children but an adult can gain a lot from it.
Techniquest is open from about 9.30-4.30. There is a cafe selling hot drinks, and snacks though when I was there they had finished.
Entrance fee is 6.50 GBP for an adult, 2.50 for children
Techniquest Science Discovery Centre based in Cardiff Bay offers visitors the opportunity to learn about science in a fun and friendly way. Techniquest has 160 interactive exhibits and puzzles, launch a hot air balloon, create your own animation and freeze your own shadow are just a few of the exhibits to try. As well as the main exhibition Techniquest also has its own Science theatre, the 100 seat theatre offers shows for all the family to enjoy. See the stars during the day in the purpose-built Planetarium and find out about bridges, fossils and music in the Discovery Room. Techniquest is open seven days a week and offers special events at weekends and school holidays.
Techniquest is a kind of scientific activity centre designed to bring a hands-on approach to finding out about life and the world (in a scientific sense). It's designed primarily for kids, but I went there among a group of adults and we had a great time, although we did get shown up by kids while we were there - they were better at a lot of the activities than we were! It was the first and is the best of its kind in the UK, possibly the world, and if you have children this is a must-visit attraction!
This is a strictly hands on science lab for all, kids to adults, lots of fun.You can come and go throughout the day, great fun for the family.
