Driving and Roads
Don't forget that we drive on the left in all of the UK. The speed limit on the motorways and all dual carriageways, unless there are signs (indicating a lower speed), is 70mph. Single Carriage roads the maximum speed is 60mph. In built-up areas the maximum speed is 30mph. There are an increasing number of 50mph, 40mph, and in towns 20mph restricted areas; these areas very often have small repeater signs at head height. Generally built-up areas have street lights, so don't rely on the presence of houses to indicate a built-up area.It is not lawful to overtake in the inside, but only on the left-hand side of a moving vehicle. For the benefit of the residents of USA - never turn right, or left, on a red traffic light. It is unlawful in the UK.
