Taking a picture while moving !

by dr.firas

In the Bus I passed near some modern streets which I couldn't pass by while walking, and I wanted to have some photos, for VT to show the modern style of London, but as you can see it is not recomanded to do such a thing as the results of the photo is alike, not clear and deformed!but its ok as you won't stop the Bus just to take a picture right?!!!

Tip Photo
Chewing gums ! Yaaak

by dr.firas

Yep yep... who could beleive or imagine that those funny disgusting little circles on the road are the spit out chewing gums, London suffers from this ugly phenomena, but I heared in an interesting show about London, that the government is sick already from washing those stucked gums everyday to romve them, as it is useless, the day after there are hundreds of it again, so they suggest the hard and cruel plan B, which is the Tax, you pay 50£ if you spit out that gum, Hmmmm would you spit it for that price!!!I don't think so... LOL

Tip Photo
Royal Mail

by dr.firas

A lovely odd fact which is special again and again in UK is that the Royal Mail needs only stamps on it, but no other official things on the stamp itself!and to keep the high prestige of the Royal Mail, your normal letter arrives very fast to its destination!that's cool!you have to know that Post offices are rare in London, not so frequently like in other cities in oher countries, but you can but the stamps almost everywhere, and if you through your letter in any box it will reach the destination, Argh Wonderland Wonderland !!!

Tip Photo
T-Mobile UK and Vodafone UK

by dr.firas

When your mobile company is not from UK and for example from France, please take knowledge that you pay double by using your phone to call from there, and worste even receiving the calls you pay also, and also the sms are doubled in price!but it is always great to use your mobile with the international option anyway!

Tip Photo
Look Right PLEASE !

by dr.firas

Fortunately is double in this tip...The first fortunately is that I wasn't alone in London, I was with my friends Mido and Rihab, and they saved me several times not be smashed by a car or a bus in London, as I have the habit to look left then if there are no cars I cross the road, but in England as you could imagine things are different,in 80% of the streets you have to look right instead of looking left, the fact that the cars are moving in the left side and passing another one from the right side, makes all the difference and turn the image of rules upside down, the second fortunately, but that you have to learn about it before going to UK is that before crossing the road you have to look down where your feet are standing, it is written like in the picture I took here whether you should look right or left before you go!

Adders

by leics

The only poisonous snake in the UK is the adder or viper. It ranges in colour from whitish grey to yellowy or reddish-brown, and is 60 -75 cm long. A darker zig-zag marking runs down its spine, with a V or X shape on the head. Adders like rough country, such heather or bracken-covered moorland, but are very shy and unaggressive. I've only ever seen one in 40+ years of walking (that's why there's no photo, but google images will provide one if you look).Adders will not bite you UNLESS YOU HURT THEM FIRST. The bite is rarely fatal, but you should seek medical attention promptly. Adders are a protected species so it is against the law to kill them. If you are lucky enough to see one, treat it as a great photo-opportunity!

Traffic lights.

by leics

UK traffic lights have 3 colours. The sequence is: red, red and amber, green, amber, red. You may only move forward on the green light. Red and amber together means 'stop, but be aware that the lights will change in a moment'. Amber alone means 'stop, the lights are about to turn red'. You may only carry on across an amber light if stopping would cause an accident (if the car behind is much too close to you, for example). It is against the law to move across traffic lights on anything other than green, and you may be fined. However, British drivers are the same as anyone else, and you will often see people moving on amber or red and amber!

Tip Photo
Mobile phones and driving.

by leics

It is against the law to use your mobile phone whilst you are driving, and penalties are steep. You can still use a hands-free set. Remember that not all traffic police cars are marked or obvious, and that many stretches of motorway are continually filmed. It's not worth the risk!

Tip Photo
Speed cameras, box junctions and roundabouts.

by leics

If you're driving, watch out for speed cameras! They look like metal boxes on posts, sometimes painted yellow. If you are breaking the speed limit a photo of your number plate is taken (you will see the flash) and there is an automatic fine....and it's not cheap! They are very unpopular but increasingly common. If you see a yellow grid painted on the road at a junction follow this rule: do not enter the box until your exit is clear, even if the traffic lights are on green. The exception is if you wish to turn right, when you may enter and stay in the box until your path is clear. There are many roundabouts in the UK, some tiny (mini-roundabouts) and some huge. The rule for all is simple: give way to the right before you enter the roundabout, keep moving when you're on it and keep signalling appropriately until you exit.
