When I first visited England, I made sure I take a short trip outside London. I was determined to go to Windsor. The place is not that far, it is approximately 20 miles west of Central London. Windsor Castle is situated in the English county of Bershire. The Home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
There is only one place why I went to Windsor. It is the Windsor Castle, and nothing more. I spent almost the whole day going around the huge castle. No wonder, it becomes the world's largest inhabited castle.
The Castle can be appreciated if you spend time going around and see its many attractions including the Drawings Gallery, Queen Mary's dolls' house, and the 14th century St. George Chapel.
For the opening times, please be aware of the following schedules:
March to October from 10:00AM-5:30PM - Make sure you get in before 4;00PM
November to February from 10:00AM-4:00PM - You are allowed to enter until 3:00PM only

Eton is a little village across the bridge from Windsor, famous for a very posh school for very rich boys and royal sons. Eton is a lot smaller than Windsor and consists mainly of a high street with some quaint old shops and cafes. At the end of the high street you can see the college the town is famous for, consisting of a number of old English college buildings. Eton is a very quiet and pleasant village and worth a walk on a sunny afternoon.

This pleasant and charming town along the Thames is home to Windsor Castle, the most accessible of all the royal properties. A very nice place. Stroll along its streets. You'll find many stores and outdoor cafes.

We saw the Changing of the Guard cermoney in the lower ward during our visit to Windsor Castle. We did not see the more famous ceremoney at Buckingham Palace, but from what I have heard, that one is hard to see due to the crowds and fence. Here you get a clear unobstructed view.
The ceremoney isn't that big of a deal, really. For some reason the British really like to do them and tourists really like to watch them. A new guard walks in. People march back and forth, a band plays, this is repeated, and then everyone but the new guard marches out.
The highlight of the event was the music. The miltary band played some very non-military band music, including the theme song from Hawaii-5-O (as in Shrek 2). The ceremony took place at the lowest end of the castle. The photo was taken from this spot looking up the hill toward the chapel (on the left) and the round tower in the background.

Heading down from Windsor Castle is the Great Walk. It is several miles long in a straight line and is flanked by horse-chestnut (conker) trees. It is very beautiful in early November when the leaves are changing colours and also very beautiful in late May when the chestnut trees are all flowering. It makes a very nice stroll, and if you are really lucky, you may get to see one of the Royals...
Note:- Windsor castle is one of the Queens official residences and one of the places she stays most often.

This is the chapel inside the Windsor Castle walls. It was very interesting to tour! This was actually one of my favorite stops in the UK. I think part of it was that I wasn't expecting to see so many monarch tombs. Great find...beautiful place!
There are many Kings and Queens buried here.
Henry VI, Edward IV, Henry VIII, Charles I, George III, George IV, William IV, Edward VII, George V and George VI. Five are in two burial vaults beneath the choir; the other five are in tombs in the Chapel, including Princess Margaret's father, King George VI, in the King George VI Memorial Chapel adjoining the north choir aisle.
The Queen Mother was is buried here beside George VI.
BTW: Picture taking is not allowed because this is a chapel. The picture I have shown, on the left ,was pulled from the net.

Windsor Castle is the Queen's official residence and it is nearly 1000 years old.
You can see Queen Mary's doll house...A huge dollhouse built with extraordinary attention to detail.
You will be able to see the rooms where Charles I and many slept during their rule.

There are deer in Windsor Great Park and it's quite amazing to be so close to these creatures. Never try to approach or feed the deer, just marvel at them from a distance as you stroll through the beautiful park.

It was very good, because if you like historic and old, royal stuff, this is the place to go. The queen Elizabeth even stays here for her holidays, but when she is the area where she stays is restricted. It has gold statues, shops, tours, amzing dolls houses and excellent gardens and information. If you want to find out about England, this is the place to go.

There are many walking paths around Windsor and Maidenhead.
An easy walk is from the castle to Bray, just follow the river at the crossing point between windsor and Eton. There are some grassy patches where you can sit and feed the swans, watch the canal boats or even sunbathe. Unfortunately it's under the flight path so isn't very quiet.
