Vatican

by croisbeauty

My first visit to Piazza San Pietro was in the morning of December 31st, last day in a year, when Pope adress to all those people who came here to listen his words of piece, love, understanding and tollerance. The whole square was overcrowded by the people from all over the world, people of different races, religions and social background but all united with the same purpose, to hear the words we miss in our everyday lifes. Next to me were group of youngsters from China, not far some Arabs and Blacks and we all were in a perfect harmony and understanding. Need just a small effort we all pay respect to each other, no matter of religion or colour of skin.

Sending your postcards

by GentleSpirit

I was told that the Italian post was very slow and that my postcards would arrive quicker if i posted them from the Vatican. So i tried an experiment, sending postcards the same day to the same city in the US and sure enough the postcard sent from Rome arrived several days later than the one posted in the Vatican. Results may vary i suppose

Via della Conciliazione -Road of the Concilliation

by Rhondaj

This is a lovely way to enter the city. This road was constructed between 1936 and 1950. It connects St. Peter's Square with the Castel Sant' Angelo- Castle of Angels. We stayed right outside the walls so we trooped through here many times a day. The different times of day lent a different feel to the city; it was very enjoyable to experience them all.

How to appreciate Arts

by Applelyn

Sistine Chapel is a MUST. Go there early in the morning to queue up as there will always be a long queue. Last summer, I was there an hour before it was opened and there was already a 100m line. Next is the technique of loving the sistine chapel, you must breathe in the "atmosphere". Imagine the workers painting them on their backs and the pride with each stroke they made. Then understand the meaning behind the paintings and the culture of the drawings. Close your eyes to be sychronised with the rhythmn of the heart beats of the designer and the characters in the painting. If not, Sistine Chapel is another Museum. The Sistine Chapel is just cool. Up, down and sideways...you can see paintings, designs and crafts. I just wish that I was alone in the chapel admiring the artworks of famous artists and craftmen without people pushing me around. I dont really understand why tourists could...

A personal present from the Vatican

by Taffster

As the Vatican is officially a country, it has its own postal service. You will find the vatican Post Office inside the entrance to the right of the large escalator which takes you to the exploration starting point. You could also call in on your way out of the Vatican, after visiting the Sistine Chapel.A postcard from the Vatican comes with a postal stamp and Vatican themed stamps as you would imagine, but makes for a special gift that is perhaps more thoughtful than a tacky minature gladiator.
