On either side of Saint...
On either side of Saint Peter's Square are two fountains. They have an interesting history (will fill in later), but on both sides, between the fountain and the centre of the square, are small circles on the pavement. If you stand on these circles, the 4 rows of pillars surrounding the square appear to be a single row, making for an interesting optical illusion. These are well known points, and while I was there, a school group was taking up both of them... when I came back, the area was roped off for seating arrangements for Sunday Mass the next day, so I couldn't get a picture.
