Refrigerator magnet by hopang This is a wonderful souvenir in the form of a refrigerator magnet to take home with you back to your country or to present to your friends and relatives as gifts! It is marvellous to look at and is rather shining and has a photograph of the Pope and a cross with an inscription "OVUNQUE PROTEGGIMI". It costs just 4.00 euros per piece and is available from the book store/souvenir shop near the entrance to St. Peter's Basilica. It is certainly one of our favourite collections of refrigerator magnets! We are not sure whether the same souvenir is still available at St. Peter's Basilica, perhaps with a different photograph of the Pope. The souvenir which has a photograph of Pope John Paul II as depicted on our photograph above was purchased in March 2004 when we visited St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican city. Leave a Comment

by Jenniflower Luggage with wheels is always a good idea, wherever you are travelling.
~ Light coloured clothing that doesnt absorb the sun as much as dark clothing. Pack comfortable walking shoes and casual clothes. ~ Long-sleeved shirts and trousers will help protect you against the sun. ~ A cap/hat that covers your head and neck. ~ Sunglasses. ~ Comfortable sandals and tackies/trainers/sneakers.
~ sun screen (Factor 35), headache tablets (from being in the car during the sun all day, may bring on a headache), and usual little things like some plasters for blisters, cotton wool, germolene etc.
Your camera, with charger, and a EUROPEAN plug extension.
Have a map and a bottle of water handy at all times. Maybe even bring a fan. It is not just a place to sight-see, but a place to learn from too. Leave a Comment

Please, bear in mind that women wearing shorts and mini skirts are not allowed to the Cathedral of Saint Peter. Though our guide was very intelligent and well-read, she did not warn us against mini, so I was stopped at the entrance and saved by an unknown woman who lent me her overcoat. Leave a Comment

by DanielF Take a bag with you for the souvenirs. If you are into Catholic imaginery, this is a great place. Well, you can have this stuff for lower prices in many other cities, but this is the Vatican after all.
If you are into stamp collecting, you should know that the Vatican has its own postal service. I think that they actually use the services of the Swiss post, but they print their own stamps. Besides, although the Euro is the official currency, the Vatican mints its own Euro coins with the image of John Paul II. Leave a Comment

by Kodi01 These are the Swiss Army Guards......they guard the Pope. There are other guards at the front entrance who will not let you in if you are not dressed in slacks....no shorts allowed. Leave a Comment

Vatican museum - long queues waiting by globetrott 'Pack' a lot of patience, when you plan to visit the Vatican Museum. Long queues of people will be at the entrance, and also inside there will be a lot of 'trafic' - but it is the only way to visit the Sixtinian Chappel. I visited the museum some years ago and still remember the bad air in the chappel and the rush of all the visitors, so I did not go again this time, I just had a look at the queue... ...and left the Vatican Museum for my next visite to Vaticano. by acemj You won't be able to take pictures in every room of the Vatican Museums, but you will be permitted to snap away outside and in many of the interior areas. Make sure you bring your best camera gear! Leave a Comment
