Excellent souvenirs to take home

by hopang

Souvenirs are excellent items to remember the tourist destinations that you have visited. Vatican City has plenty of wonderful souvenirs to take home with you to your country. Our main photograph on the right depicts the stone sculpture that we purchased outside St. Peter's Cathedral. There are plenty of these souvenir shops around the cathedral. Our second photograph (hidden photo) depicts the beautiful magnet purchased from the souvenir shop inside St. Peter's Cathedral. The souvenir shop is located on the ground floor beside the main entrance to the cathedral.

Vatican Museum gift shop

by fairy_dust

If you go to the Vatican Museum, definitely spend some time at the gift shop. It's not filled with cheap cheesy souvenirs, it's more like a jewelry shop - beautiful religious objects, many are replicas of actual antiques. I bought two metal bookmarks with fancy carvings, I also saw a lot of crucifixes, cross pendants (and other jewelry), rosaries, medallions, etc. Many things are quite expensive, but it's good quality and very beautiful.

Vatican Bookstore

The Vatican bookstore close to St. Peter's Basilica is worth a browse, especially if you're looking for a Catholic Bible and/or books on Catholicism, the popes, saints, Vatican City, etc. I bought a Bible and some books about the Blessed Mother.

Basillica Gift Shop (Outside): Religious Artifacts

by SJTravel

This shop has a lot of the more religious artifacts in the Basillica. When I was there, nuns were running the shop. They were very friendly and very helpful and they spoke several languages (which I thought was nice for the customers). They were also very patient. They have SEVERAL rosaries for all different prices, depending on what your fancy is. You can probably get a cheaper rosary outside of San Pietro, but these are authentic and really nice. And all of the rosaries are reasonably priced as well. They had a lot of other religious paraphernalia as well, statues, prayer cards, and little gems. I am not that familiar with Catholicism so I didn't know what everything was, but they had a lot to choose from. They also had some postcards of the different Popes and stuff. You can probably expect to pay a good price for what you get....at least that is my opinion. I didn't really shop...

Basillica Gift Shop (Inside): Bottle for Holy Water

by SJTravel

There are a couple gift shops in the Basillica. There is one inside close to the Treasury. This one has a lot more of the gifts you would expect to be in any gift shop. They don't have as many of the religious gifts. They have a lot of postcards, portraits, posters, books, etc. You can buy an empty (plastic) bottle for Holy Water. The bottles they currently have are Mary shaped. Then you can put the bottle in the holy water in the Basillica and have some of your very own holy water blessed by the Pope. If you are into this (or have friends who are), this could be a neat souvenir. Unsure because I didn't buy one. But I didn't see any when I was looking around at other souvenir shops around the area. If you are going to do some souvenir shopping, you may want to keep your eyes peeled for a bottle, if this is something you are interested in.

shopping in vatican city

by arjgce

My family and I have been to Rome many times, and we have found the gift shop on the roof of St. Peter's Basilica to be the best place to buy religious articles. We thought the prices were better for most items, compared with the religious goods shops near the basilica.

Vatican Museum Shop: Best Vatican Shops

by icunme

Close to the Vatican Museum exit you will find this shop. A good selection of religious items and other artifacts as well. These busts were displayed along with a listing of shipping options and prices with insurance to the US, Europe, Asia and many destinations - very helpful.

Vatican Post Office

by Willettsworld

Located next to the Information Office (on the left hand side as you face St Peter's Basilica), the Vatican Post Office is a very popular place for both tourists and local Roman's as the Vatican postal system is reputedly fast. Inside, you can buy a large variety of Vatican stamps, coins (although the Euro collections sell out very quickly), postal covers and albums etc. Remember: you cannot post mail with Italian stamps in the Vatican post office nor can you post mail with Vatican stamps in the Italian mail system.

The Vatican Pharmacy: No Johnnies available

by sourbugger

The Vatican Pharmacy is located just inside the Vatican City and open to the public, it is claimed one of the world’s most well stocked, with foreign products as well as Italian ones.On the other hand, even if you are armed with the requisite prescription and I.D the products reflect the values of the Catholic Church. You will be looking long and hard if you think you will find contraceptives, Viagra or Medicinal Cannabis !
