Don't go to slow more and more of the same.

by EdinburghRoc

The art ect keeps on coming and coming more and more like it's never ending. You could find time running out and needing to rush round it.The Chapel is near the end and you do desire to see that, so don't dawdle.

Single women should take note

by oneonta_ni

I sat alone by one of the pillars in front of the church while my husband wandered around taking photographs. While there, a man approached me and started to speak English to me. I told him I didn't understand but he would not leave me alone. I kept moving to different places and he kept following me. I started to panic then because I lost sight of my husband. I don't know what the man wanted but he was definitely up to no good so I would warn any women to avoid situations where they are alone. If you are traveling alone, try to find a group to be near in case of any trouble.I have not had any similar problems on more recent trips.

An Annoyance to Prevent Danger.

Or the security guards at the Cathedral. You'll have to stand in a long (and I really mean, long) queue to enter, and you'll be searched on entrance. It's useful, of course, but pretty annoying, especially in case the weather is hot. So, when you're deciding how much time to allocate for your visit to the St. Paul's Cathedral, keep the issue of the security queue in mind, and add at least (yes, I said at least) 25 - 30 minutes to the time you things you'll need! This will help to avoid a time crunch when you're inside the Cathedral.

You may go to the top of the dome. First you will have a lift to the top of the Church and then there is a very small staircaise up the dome to the very top. The stairs are made in a one-way-system, and get very small and narrow at some places. Nowhere will it be possible to turn around and go back But it is absolutely worth the effort to go up there and it is also the only chance, to have a look into the rest of 'Vaticano'

Papal Audiences.

Check previously where to ask for free tickets before travelling. The Pope may also be seen during the Sunday noon hour when he addresses crowds assembled in St. Peter's Square briefly from his window.

How Much Can You Take?

by mrclay2000

I feel the following warning is appropriate. Once you enter St Peter's Square, the grand approach to the largest church on the globe scarcely prepares you for its opulent interior and the enormity of its dimensions. For those of you who walked every hallway of the Vatican Museums, the opulence inside the church itself is a refreshing diminishment after gallery upon gallery of rich tapestries, endless busts and sculptures, beautiful icons, gaudy panelwork, intricate carvings and thousands of other artefacts. For most people, a few hours are required to appreciate the museums, but the first hour starts to lie heavy on the stomach. By the time you see the Sistine Chapel, you might start to watch for the exit signs to recover your overwhelmed senses.

Crowded

by Packerman

This is a warning. Be prepared to wait outside in line to get into the Vatican museums. Be prepared to not have much space once you are in the Vatican museums. Be prepared to have NO room in the Sistine chapel.

Proper Clothing

by Aaron7

You may be denied access to the Vatican if you aren't wearing proper attire. That means no bare knees, shoulders, or stomachs. In other words no shorts, tank tops or low cuts. Jeans and T-shirts are fine though.

Ladies carry a wrap

by Agraichen

In order to enter the Vatican women are REQUIRED to wear a dress or wrap of some sort. Although the "commercial bug" is lightening the requirement from where it was 20-30 years ago, be prepared to be stopped if wearing shorts.

Police - VS - Army

by TinKan

There is police located just about every where you go around the city. There are the Rome police, Carabinari and not the Vatican Guard. They are helpful and most speak english so if you need help or just want a picture ask.
