The first woman in space

by Tobias_Plieninger

In Gyumri there is not much to see.But one thing you should see is the statue of the first women in space. The first woman "kosmonaut" was a resident of Gyumri. The big Statue is worth a visit. From the hill you have a very nice view over Gyumri.

Inside the Yereruyk Church Front Entrance

by RedEaredPanda

This is me standing in the middle of the roofless Yereruyk church in Anipemza... Behind me used to be the front enterance to the church.. You may notice some construction on the left hand side inside the church.. Efforts were made to restore the church a little in the past and its evident in newer cut stones laying around outside around the perimeter of the church.

Only Inhabitant of Yereruyk Church

by RedEaredPanda

Once I entered the church, I noticed it to be calm and quite environment with no one around.. Except this little gorgeous bird called "Hope Hope" in Armenian. The poor thing hopped as if it were injured and could not fly away.. Kept hopping around until I was finished visiting the inside of the church and taking photographs.. It was a beautiful site to see this bird inside the church..

A close up of Yereruyk Church wall Details

by RedEaredPanda

You can see with a bit more detail the architecture of the walls on the southern part of the Yereruyk church. The two doors lead above the steps lead to inside where on the eastern side, there are small little rooms down underneath where prayers are made and candles still light to this day.

Inside of Yereruyk Church looking at Basilica%c

by RedEaredPanda

The inside of the roofless church is covered by grass and weed. Not many people or tourists do visit this church on their trip to Armenia unknowingly that this church, though roofless, is situated in one of the most beautiful sceneries of Armenia. Definitely worth a visit if you have time on your hands in Armenia and want to visit somewhere a bit off the beaten path.. Perhaps I should have included this tip in the appropriate category..

Yereruyk Church from the Outside

by RedEaredPanda

You can see the wall of the Yereruyk church of Anipemza from the outside.. The remainders of the wall in south-western corner show that walls had been raised over the arches of the main nave and there are windows on top to provide light for the inside. There are 5 relatively large steps leading up to the church and there are two points of entry from this side of the church. There have been efforts in the past to restore some of the fallen rocks and stones from the church and you may see a few newer cut stones laying around the perimeter of the church for the purpose of restoring the walls on the western side
