Lighting candles and saying prayers in St. Gayane

Throughout Armenia but more importantly in Ejmiatsin, being the center of Christianity in Armenia, lighting candles inside churches and monastaries is a custom and a tradition carried over many centuries by people.

The Candles may be purchased (a set fee per candle or a donation depending on the church) and lighted by the means of other candles inside the church and placing them in the sand while saying prayers. Many people light candles and say prayers to bring fortune, health and prosperity for their families and the families of their loved ones.. The prays are subjective hence it is personal and different from person to person.
