If you fly to Armenia, you can apply for e-visa! The advantage of e-visa is that you don't have to have an Armenian Embassy/Consulate in your country, and you don't have to go all way through all the bureaucracy. As far as I know e-visas are issued in 2 days. You can check the Foreign Ministry's website.
UPDATE March 2013: Starting from January, 2013 EU Citizens do not need any visa to travel to Armenia.
Luggage and bags:
Pack light, as local transportation is often crowded and large bags are not appreciated.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shoes-bring along a pair of house slippers. Armenians usually don't wear street shoes indoors.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Dental floss and deodorant are hard to find in Armenia.
Miscellaneous: Bring a flashlight if going to the villages. Lights are not left on at night and you may have to venture out to an outhouse.
