Bargaining is accepted in Vernissage but sometimes a price a customer asks is clearly not worth the many hundreds of hours spent by the person to make the khachkar from wood or the backgammon.. Located near Republic Square, off Nalbandyan Street by the Metro, the entire first block has little of interest to tourists. The strange collection of items for sale however is irresistible for photographers, who can probably never match some of the collections of random items carefully laid out on a cloth or sheet.
The second large block, starting at Hanrapetutyan Street begins with books and flags, embroidery and carpets, and continues to sections with t-shirts, backgammon/chess boards, dolls, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, khachkars, woodcraft, Soviet memorabilia, household items and a multitude of other things. If you want to take home a souvenir or gifts, odds are you'll find something here. Even if you don't you'll probably get a kick out of the sights and sounds of the sprawling market. Keep your wallets and purses tight, this is the one place in Yerevan known to have a resident pair of pickpockets.
Carpets, ceramics, backgammon boards, a painting, military patch, khachkar, doll or a good art book.
