The food is a little pricey but it is in the hotel so I'm sure that is why. But the food is good and the views over the Caspian and the Maiden's Tower are great. If you don't want to pay the food prices, then just sit in the bar below it. Same great view but for the price of a coke...
Favorite Dish: The filet mignon was good and beautifully cooked... especially because it is difficult to get good beef here. It is on all the local menus, but tends to taste too strong for Western palates. But here it was just like home.

Housed in a 14th century caravanserai, that’s all this restaurant has to offer. Half of the menu is international cuisine and only foreign drinks are served, while poor English speaking but aggressive waiters try to make the choice in your place on the highest end of the menu. And this is not all – the “local flavour show” is in fact a series of 4-5 Russian songs and ballades of Intourist type, for which 10 new mantas/table (11 usd) are requested above and outside the bill. Not to forget – you are kicked off at around 23,00 (“Sorry, we have to close, I will probably go home by taxi anyway”).
In a few words, a 14th century caravanserai transformed into a restaurant with average food and aggressive service, accompanied by kitsch Russian songs and foreign drinks.
Favorite Dish: Of all the things we ordered being pushed by an agressive waiter, LAVANGI - chicken stuffed with walnuts and herbs (speciality form S Azerbaijan) - is the only memorable one.

The caravan saray originally was a stopover for the caravans on the silk road centuries ago. Now you can eat there outside in summer accompanied by live music. The waiter spoke english and helped me a lot to order a delicious vegetarian meal.

This petite little restaurant features and outdoor seating area under the watchful gaze of Maiden's Tower, as well as a local themed interior.
The food served here is among some of the best in the country and is presented to Western standards. A wide variety of cuisine is served here, from local to Mediterranean delights.
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is the crab cakes to start, as it has a very mild taste and is served with a variety of dips and sauces.

Wouldn't you like to go back in time? Go to Karavansarai any time of the year! Summertime you can sit in the courtyard and imagine all the Silk Way caravans that would stop there 5-6 centuries ago... There is a small fountain in the middle of the yard and just look up to get a glimpse of the Maiden Tower! Wintertime enjoy the warmth of the ground floor and look up for the door of the cave leading all the way to the Maiden Tower :) There are also private rooms that are great when it's cold outside. Every room has its own fire-place and you sit on divans with lots of pillows (mutakkahs). It's so cool! Those rooms were actually used as lodging so many centuries ago... Of course there is live Azeri music every night and even shows with belly dancer! The price is very good and there is a huge variety of both local and continental dishes. The staff speaks English and are very friendly.
Favorite Dish: All the dishes are absolutley great, especially the Azeri national meals. Go for pilaff or try the fried sturgeon with palmgranate! Yummyyyyy :)

Sadly- this statue of a clown becons towards Fountain Square in the heart of Baku to enter and dine on junk food instead of the delicious local and the regional cousine that is available at amazingly low prices.
Favorite Dish: Yuck!

This restaurant in in a park like atmosphere. The tables for four are outside under the trees. They serve lamb, chicken, fried fish.
The dinner is accompanied by a delicious selection of breads and vegetables.
Favorite Dish: My favorite of the dishes was the lamb chops.

Old City restaurant is in the Old City, actually right at the entrance from Neftchilar Ave. It's underground, so do not count on any views of the Caspian even though you'll be across the street from it. The waiters (all males) are very friendly and speak English. As for food, it won't get any better!!! The chef is among the top 60 chefs in the world and you'll be served only the best of the best Azeri dishes.
The atmosphere is very relaxing. The seats are kind of low and have lots of "mutakka"s (long pillow type). There is a big TV screen where they show videos of Russian and Azeri singers. There is a bar area where you can sit while waiting for your company to arrive.
Favorite Dish: I love every meal on that menu but I always go for lula kabab with walnuts. You can get lula kabab in almost every local restaurant but only few of them serve walnut lulas. It is made entirely of walnuts and is very soft. Yummyyyyy!!! And of course gutabs are there too ;-)

On the Fountain Square there is an Indian Restaurant namingly Maharaja. You get authentic Indian food which is a bit expensive over there but really tasty. On Fri & Sat evenings one can pay $10 & have an unlimited buffet which includes a welcome drink, starters & a main course.
Taj Mahal is another Indian Restaurant . It's comparatively cheaper & good quality food.
Hotel Delhi is one more Indian Restaurant with decent food & cheaper.
If you want to have a local food one must taste Shourma, Piryozhki etc ... I for got the name of the hotel but it's siutated on Nizami Street

Baku's name is orginated from one of two Persian phrases: Bagh-Kuh ("Mount of God") and bad kube ("city of winds").
