Coffee
Morning without a strong large coffee just isn’t a good one to me. And unless you are in Baku or if you cannot substitute coffee with tea, a good coffee may be difficult to find. So, bring a few nesscafe bags with you.

Azerbaijan is a Muslim country, so there are some rules about dress....although this doesn't seem to count for Baku where people wear pretty much what they like. Outside Baku, in some of the more remote places, traditional life still exists, so it is better to dress modestly. if you go inside a mosque, women must cover their hair, and everyone must take off their shoes before entering the prayer hall. Don't be like me and forget to bring a torch!! Power cuts are frequent outside Baku, and most places doen't have back-up generators (the one exception I found was the Hotel Kervansaray in Sheki)....it isn't much fun stumbling into potholes in the pitch black while trying to locate your accommodation! You might also want to bring along some patience and a sense of humour, as you will need it, especially when dealing with people who work in transport ticket booths.
