    TAXI SCAM

  • In Bahrain, taxi drivers are mainly locals and to me, this is really the problem why taxi are so expensive and ineffective in Bahrain.

In other Gulf countries, taxi are driven by foreigners and they respect the rules established by the local authorities. In BH, systematically, the driver will refuse to put on the meter and will try to cheat you badly !

My advice, rent a car or ask your hotel the fair ! the main intl hotel have a fixed price for taxi ride. For example, from Gulf to the Airport, the price is 4 BD and not 10 as one driver ask me !

  • My brother Matthew at the Bahrain Fort. - Manama

    Bahrain Fort.

Maybe it was because we visited during a sandstorm, but the effect was surreal. Many areas of the fort were under construction, but it still appeared to be open to the public. There was not a single other person around so we were free to explore. There are not a lot of barriers like you would normally find in North America. This makes it easy to accidentally walk into areas that are being renovated or are under construction.

  • Making pottery - Manama
    Making pottery
    by tlcsha
The pottery we visited was not the one we were looking for, but it actually turned out to be better. After watching the potters do their thing we were able to take a turn ourselves. The non-english shopkeeper gave us a tour of the kilns that were built into an old burial mound and led us through the production process to completion. The price of the pottery both glazed and unglazed was very reasonable.

    Bahrain National Museum

  • One of the best ways to get a great intro to a country is to visit its national museum. A national museum usually offers a great insight into its history and people and this museum does a great job in introducing tourists to the country. The museum shows archaeological finds, history of pearl fishing and some great information about the local culture. The museum also has a wildlife hall and a craftshop. A few hours is well worth it.

    My Mom on a camel.
    by tlcsha
Find the camel herd, usually somewhere near the tree of life and try to climb on. The camels are quite tame, even my mother was able to get on with the help of the camel herder. It makes for some interesting pictures. Bring a picnic lunch and eat under the nearby tree of life.

  • Great place to see the Arabic culture, can find anything you could possibly want. haggling, bargaining, trading, are all accepted in most places. Gold is pretty cheap. Good shopping for souvenirs and lots of other things too.

  • The Tree of Life is this tree that grows in the middle of the desert. I wasnt too impressed due to the fact that there are shrubs and smaller trees growing all around, not to mention the graffiti on the tree
