The traditional industries of Bahrain are dhow (wooden Arab sailboats) construction, fishing and pearling most males engaged in some form of fishing.
In 1981 the government launched a program to revitalize the fishing industry by introducing trawlers, motorizing the traditional dhows, expanding jetties, constructing cold storage facilities, and offering training courses on the use and maintenance of modern fishing equipment.
I took this picture displayed on the bay park one of the dhow constructed by the locals.
If you're into art there's a great gallery in adliya - called Al Riwaqa: they usually have an exhibition of reasonable quality work. The other place to go is the Bahraini Art Societyon Budaya road (next to 'things to do'). They usually have an exhibition of some sort on.
