Miscellaneous:
Basically anything you want you can buy in bahrain. It’s probably best for me to talk about what you should buy whilst you’re here to take back home.
1 - 22 carat gold is sold by the gram here, which means they'll weigh the jewellery on scales to tell you the price. Gold usually sits around US$10 a gram and when compared to lots of other countries, is cheap. You'll find a gold suq in the 'city centre' hotel and another in the suq itself. You’ll also find some gold shops in Muharraq.
2 - CD's are a reasonable price when compared to europe, but you won't get the choice. It's usually limited to what’s in the charts. If you’re passing through the airport the choice is probably the best on the island, even though it’s such a small shop.
3 - Cooking Ingredients: Herbs and spices are very, very, very cheap and can be bought in all the large supermarkets. Tthings like dried lemons and cinnamon sticks (which are really difficult to find in europe) are about US$2 for a large pack. Tamarind paste is also easily found and very cheap.
4 - Apple flavoured Hubble-Bubble tabbaco can also be bought in lots of supermarkets, but it is definately available in Al Jazira on the Budaya road.
5 - Tiger Balm - The far-eastern cure-all in a bottle. You’ll find it in all supermarkets for a pound a bottle.
