When visiting the desert in the general area of the Tree of Life, you may come across a herd of camels. For a few dollars you may stop and the herdsman will allow you to hop on one and take photographs. The last time I was down there, I counted 52 camels in the herd.
I feel that whenever touring an Arab country, one must have a close encounter with a herd of camels (see my Saudi page which I should have ready within the next few days). While cruising into town from the base, we noticed a herd of camels by the side of the road and two herders. We decided to stop for photos. The two men that were herding the camels motioned to us that we should climb aboard for a first hand look but none of us had the cajones to try. Besides, they stunk!
